Stoned Jesus : Songs To Moon [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] « To become what I hate the most ».

Is This The End ? Just The End Of It.

[ENGLISH VERSION] «To become what I hate the most». That’s how Quicksand from the album Songs to Sun came out, first album of a promising trilogy and which announces a second opus darker and melancholic. A promise kept thanks to singles with a dark tone in their lyrics as well as the use of instruments that offer us a Doom Metal more than despairing and that, for the greatest pleasure of our ears.

Velvet is the perfect example of a single that can carry an album, a simple guitar riff to recognize, catchy, which leads us on a melancholic chorus. Is This The End? Just The End Of It. This is the question that Igor Sydorenko, frontman of the band for 17 years now, presents to us in a chorus that has something to put us in trance. Then suddenly, the hearts join in the song like a thunderous scream until the piece stops abruptly.

The album then continues calmly, (maybe too much) with ZYX, a piece with calm, progressive notes and an instrumental track that is pleasant to listen to, especially with xylophone notes that would almost recall the OST of the trailer of a film that wants to put its hero at risk. Then the track takes a 180-degree turn, introducing us in a cowboy/western style with an acoustic guitar, bass and chords. We listen with pleasure but without asking for more.

Jackal on the other hand. A little slap! A soft intro that would make us believe in a song similar to the previous two, but it’s nothing like that. Igor Sydorenko invites us to go to sleep, « Go to Sleep » as the drums accelerate and gain power up to an effective guitar riff and that’s when the voice takes on an almost robotic tone. Certainly one of the best points of the track that continues crescendo until the final riff which, although short, is perhaps the best of the album.

Now, the album is basically in the same vein as the rest of the band’s discography with more melancholic tracks, marked overall by a strong presence of acoustic guitar and less saturated guitar, and the last two songs of the album represent that well.

Songs to Earth scheduled for next year, will therefore conclude this trilogy as it should be, with hopefully more epic, iconic and brutal moments and thus offer fans a final apotheosis.
