[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le groupe Stitched Up Heart a sorti le mois dernier son quatrième album studio, Medusa , via Judge & Jury Records. Actif depuis 2010, on avait pu découvrir le groupe avec leur album précédent To The Wolves sorti en 2023 qui n’avait pas été spécialement apprécié mais avec les singles dévoilés par le groupe mené par Mixi on espère vraiment être surpris par ce nouvel opus!
L’album s’ouvre avec LOVE AND DEATH, premier featuring sur Medusa avec le compositeur/vocaliste Austin John Winkler, qui allie la puissance mais aussi un certain sens des mélodies, Mixi évolue entre son chant clair qui semble bien plus maîtrisé que sur l’album précédent mais aussi des parties gutturales qui se rapprochent de celles que pouvaient proposer Maria Brinks (In This Moment) il y’a quelques années! Le résultat donne un très bon premier morceau qui reste également très accessible. SICK SICK SICK accueille cette fois-ci Lauren Babic mais aussi Eyes Set To Kill, le morceau est hyper énergique on a parfois l’impression que les « SICK,SICK,SICK » retentissent comme des Six, Six, Six , le refrain calme un peu le jeu mais n’arrondit pas les angles pour autant on reste dans cette dominante de titre catchy qui donne envie de se castagner dans un pit! Le morceau se concentre sur le fait d’aimer son côté diabolique jusqu’à s’en rendre malade avec notamment une petite référence à Blanche-Neige ( « Like a poison apple,Wanna take a bite »).
La majorité de Medusa est composée de featurings et GLITCH BITCH n’échappe pas à la règle avec cette fois-ci, Conquer Divide! C’est l’hymne des Baddie et des E-Girls (Alt Girls), mais aussi une satyre des réseaux sociaux, les filles évoquant Tiktok comme étant toxique dans les paroles. Les sonorités changent quelque peu ici tout en gardant un côté très agressif, on retrouve quelques touches plus Electro qui se mêlent au Metal Moderne. Sur CANNIBAL on retrouve Heidi Sheperd de Butcher Babies, le rythme ralentit dès le début avec un début de couplet parlé/chanté avant de revenir à quelque chose de très catchy et de plus Metal, les deux chanteuses se répondent entre passages plus clairs et d’autres plus Metalcore avec des screams justes pour les Bad Girls qu’elles sont et qu’elles nous invitent à être. Les riffs sont diaboliques et l’ambiance est parfois très Heavy sur ce nouveau titre.
Les morceaux sont ici relativement courts et le tout s’enchaîne de manière fluide (et heureusement), le titre éponyme MEDUSA (feat Lyric Noel), qui pourrait être la chanson parfaite pour une Dark Romance avec ses références à Méduse vengeresse dans une histoire d’amour toxique. Là encore l’énergie est renouvelée et nous permet de découvrir Lyric Noel qui propose d’ailleurs comme une « suite » à MEDUSA avec leur dernier single en date ACID BLOOM. BEAST accueille un nouveau frontman aux côtés de Mixi à savoir Elias Soriano de Non Point, le morceau est presque dansant et les deux vocalistes se livrent un duel vocal sans pitié! Les deux derniers titres de ce nouvel album ne sont pas des duos, on retrouve cette fois-ci Mixi seule au chant et on commence avec DEVILICIOUS un morceau qui commence rapidement avant de laisser s’exprimer la chanteuse dans un refrain solide mais certains passages peuvent rappeler A.M.E.R.I.C.A de Motionless In White et ce qu’on reprochait au groupe sur l’album précédent se confirme un peu ici même si l’impression de déjà-vu s’estompe heureusement rapidement! Le morceau final est donc EX-TERMINATION indéniablement un des morceaux les plus Heavy sur MEDUSA, la vocaliste continue à nous bluffer avec sa technique vocale, cette fois-ci Mixi s’attaque à une relation dévastatrice et violente contre un EX violent et abusif et quelle bonne façon de clore un album!
Stitched Up Heart nous propose un album bien meilleur que le précédent avec un nombre conséquent de featurings qualitatifs avec des groupes/artistes qu’on connaît bien mais également avec d’autres peu connus en France. Le groupe s’est ici exprimé de la meilleure des façons sur des thématiques modernes et fortes, en espérant les voir en France prochainement!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Last month, the band Stitched Up Heart released their fourth studio album, *Medusa*, via Judge & Jury Records. Active since 2010, we first discovered the band with their previous album, *To The Wolves*, released in 2023, which wasn’t particularly well-received; however, given the singles unveiled by the band led by Mixi, we’re really hoping to be surprised by this new album!
The album opens with “LOVE AND DEATH,” the first collaboration on *Medusa* featuring composer/vocalist Austin John Winkler, which combines power with a distinct sense of melody. Mixi alternates between clean vocals—which seem far more polished than on the previous album—and guttural parts reminiscent of those Maria Brinks (In This Moment) used to deliver a few years ago! The result is a great opening track that’s also very accessible. “SICK SICK SICK” this time features Lauren Babic as well as Eyes Set To Kill; the track is incredibly energetic—at times it feels like the “SICK, SICK, SICK” chants ring out like “Six, Six, Six.” The chorus tones things down a bit but doesn’t smooth out the rough edges; we’re still firmly in the realm of a catchy track that makes you want to go wild in a mosh pit! The track focuses on loving your dark side to the point of making yourself sick, with a little nod to Snow White (“Like a poison apple, wanna take a bite”).
Most of *Medusa* features guest artists, and “GLITCH BITCH” is no exception—this time with Conquer Divide! It’s the anthem for Baddies and E-Girls (Alt Girls), but also a satire of social media, with the girls describing TikTok as toxic in the lyrics. The sound shifts slightly here while maintaining a very aggressive edge; there are a few more electro touches mixed in with modern metal. On “CANNIBAL,” we hear Heidi Shepherd of Butcher Babies; the tempo slows down right from the start with a spoken/sung verse before shifting back to something very catchy and more metal-oriented. The two singers take turns between cleaner passages and more metalcore sections, complete with screams that perfectly suit the Bad Girls they are—and invite us to be. The riffs are diabolical, and the atmosphere is at times very heavy on this new track.
The songs here are relatively short, and the album flows seamlessly (thankfully). The title track “MEDUSA” (feat. Lyric Noel) could be the perfect song for a dark romance, with its references to the vengeful Medusa in a toxic love story. Once again, the energy is renewed, allowing us to discover Lyric Noel, who, incidentally, offers a sort of “sequel” to “MEDUSA” with their latest single, “ACID BLOOM.BEAST welcomes a new frontman alongside Mixi: Elias Soriano of Non Point. The track is almost danceable, and the two vocalists engage in a merciless vocal duel! The last two tracks on this new album aren’t duets; this time, Mixi takes the lead vocals alone. We start with “DEVILICIOUS,” a track that kicks off quickly before letting the singer shine in a powerful chorus, though certain passages may bring to mind “A.M.E.R.I.C.” A by Motionless In White, and the criticism leveled at the band on their previous album is somewhat confirmed here, even if the sense of déjà vu fortunately fades quickly! The final track is “EX-TERMINATION,” undeniably one of the heaviest tracks on *MEDUSA*; the vocalist continues to blow us away with her vocal technique. This time, Mixi tackles a devastating and violent relationship with an abusive ex—and what a great way to close out an album!
Stitched Up Heart delivers an album that’s far superior to its predecessor, featuring a substantial number of high-quality collaborations with bands and artists we know well, as well as others who are less well-known in France. The band has truly excelled here in addressing modern and powerful themes—here’s hoping to see them in France soon!
