Le groupe suédois The Gems nous présente son nouvel album intitulé Year Of The Snake, disponible le 13 mars 2026 par le label Napalm Records.
Chargé d’une intro à l’esprit dimensionnel, Walls se positionne aisément en ouverture logique qui est suivi d’un fondu enchainé pour présenter le cœur de l’album, Year Of The Snake, le titre éponyme qui vient tout déménager avec son Hard Rock simple efficace. Gravity est marqué par la présence de Tommy Johansson (Majestica, Ex-Sabaton), qui apporte un contraste avec sa voix plus grave et une énergie plus que bienvenue. Encore un classique avec Diamond In The Rough et son refrain ultra catchy, puis c’est le moment de Live And Let Go qui est un peu plus moderne que les autres car nous pourrions presque entendre des similitudes avec Battle Beast, et cela se ressent aussi un peu dans Clout Chaser mais la plus grosse influence de ce titre est sans aucun doute les Spices Girls avec leur mythique intro de Wannabe, tout en gardant leur côté électrisant. Cette chanson se place comme un cri de guerre à scander à s’en égosiller, et avec ça arrive Buckle Up qui appuie plus sur les couplets pour laisser place à un refrain plus léger.
Appelez les secours pour Hot Bait, car nous partons dans les années 80 avec tout les codes de l’époque et ça marche plutôt bien. Et c’est enfin le moment de la ballade de l’album avec Forgive And Forget, le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est qu’il y a absolument rien à jeter, tout est bien conçu. Après avoir ralentit un peu le rythme pour le slow, la cadence accélère de nouveau avec Go Along To Get Along et va se poursuivre avec Math Ain’t Mathing et son tempo un peu plus mesuré. Même esprit pour Firebird qui vient accentuer le jeu de la guitare ou encore Stars et ses envolées lyriques. Voici venu le temps de la dernière chanson avec Happy Water qui adopte ici, un rythme plus effréné et constant que l’on attendait.
The Gems nous propose un album chargé en riffs, voix éraillée, et batterie sortie tout droit des années 80/90 avec une touche de modernité. Un rappel essentiel que le Hard Rock n’est pas mort et qu’il est le commencement de tout. Cet album est en deux parties avec de multiples influences de générations différentes.

Swedish band The Gems presents their new album, Year Of The Snake, available March 13, 2026, on the Napalm Records label.
With its dimensional intro, Walls is the logical opening track, followed by a smooth transition into the heart of the album, Year Of The Snake, the eponymous title track that rocks with its simple, effective hard rock sound. Gravity features Tommy Johansson (Majestica, Ex-Sabaton), who brings contrast with his deeper voice and welcome energy. Another classic is Diamond In The Rough with its ultra-catchy chorus, then it’s time for Live And Let Go, which is a little more modern than the others, as we can almost hear similarities with Battle Beast, and this is also felt a little in Clout Chaser, but the biggest influence on this track is undoubtedly the Spice Girls with their legendary intro to Wannabe, while retaining their electrifying side. This song is like a battle cry to be chanted until you’re hoarse, and with that comes Buckle Up, which focuses more on the verses to make way for a lighter chorus.
Call for help for Hot Bait, because we’re heading back to the 80s with all the codes of the era, and it works pretty well. And finally, it’s time for the album’s ballad with Forgive And Forget. The least we can say is that there’s absolutely nothing to throw away, everything is well designed. After slowing down the pace a little for the slow song, the tempo picks up again with Go Along To Get Along and continues with Math Ain’t Mathing and its slightly more measured tempo. The same spirit prevails in Firebird, which accentuates the guitar playing, and Stars with its lyrical flights of fancy. Now it’s time for the last song, Happy Water, which adopts a more frenetic and consistent rhythm than we expected.
The Gems offer us an album loaded with riffs, raspy vocals, and drums straight out of the 80s/90s with a touch of modernity. An essential reminder that hard rock is not dead and that it is the beginning of everything. This album is in two parts with multiple influences from different generations.
