[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le 25 novembre dernier avait lieu LE plateau Deathcore de l’année avec en Headliner All Shall Perish qui pour leur tournée Européenne était bien accompagné par trois groupes : Acranius, Vulvodynia et Peeling Flesh. Retour sur cette très belle soirée !
Et la soirée commence fort avec Acranius. Le groupe allemand est une grosse découverte pour nous (on connaît Acrania mais pas Acranius) et comment dire? Le son est dantesque, pachydermique as fuck et on a tout bonnement l’impression de se faire rouler dessus avec des titres comme Ghetto Brawl, Rule Of Seven ou encore leur dernier single en date, Synchronized (est sorti depuis ce concert un nouveau titre : Forced Dread) qui nous fait espérer un nouvel album pour 2026! En tout cas, une découverte plutôt incroyable et qu’on espère revoir bien vite!
On enchaîne avec les Sud-Africains de Vulvodynia que nous n’avions pas vu depuis leur concert à Paris en 2019. Avec donc Lwandile dorénavant au chant (apparemment il y’aurait encore eu quelques drama sur la scène Deathcore car à l’origine, il avait repris son poste de guitariste), on ne pensait pas s’attendre à grand-chose et force est de constater qu’on s’est bien trompés! La performance du groupe est vraiment très bonne tout comme le son et c’est avec leur dernier album Entabeni sous le bras qu’ils vont nous éblouir pendant 30 minutes, c’est court certes mais pour chauffer le public c’est tout bonnement très efficace! Mais on a quand même droit à quelques classiques comme Mob Justice ou encore Psychosadistic Design pour le final!
L’ambiance est déjà brûlante dans le public après les deux premiers groupes et ce n’est pas Peeling Flesh qui va faire descendre la température bien au contraire! Pour son premier concert à Londres, les américains sont accueillis comme des rois par un public déjà totalement acquis à sa cause! Après une brève intro, c’est parti pour la bagarre crasseuse mais tout en restant joyeuse, Candy Coated Corpse initie cette ambiance, ça va à l’essentiel et après tout dans ce genre de soirée c’est tout bonnement ce qu’on attend tandis que No Custer Shit voit l’arrivée des premiers jumps à la demande de Damonteal Harris. Tear The Club Up et 12 Gauge Autopsy retournent encore plus la salle, qui hurle les paroles comme un seul homme et on a presque l’impression d’assister à un show de Headliner tant l’ambiance est dingue! Sur Beefy 5 Layer Penetrated Assault l’apocalypse reprend et malgré le panneau « No Crowdsurf » présent dans la salle, la sécurité récupère les slammeurs par dizaines sur ce titre, d’ailleurs on ne peut que saluer un des agents qui s’ambiancera sur tout les sets de ce soir, sous les sourires et parfois les rires de ses collègues. C’est avec F.F.W.A.S que le set va se conclure et Peeling Flesh sera même rejoint par Marcus de Acranius pour un featuring qui finira de mettre le feu à l’assemblée!
Avec le set de Peeling Flesh on pourrait presque se demander si la soirée n’est pas déjà terminée mais que nenni, il reste les vétérans du Deathcore, All Shall Perish de retour sur scène après une pause de plus de dix ans, pour notre part on ne les avaient pas revus depuis leur dernier passage au Hellfest en 2012 et ça faisait quand même bien long! Nous n’avions même pas revus Eddie Hermida sur scène avec Suicide Silence depuis toutes ces années c’est pour dire.
Et c’est avec Eradication, premier titre de l’album The Price Of Existence que le groupe va démarrer le set et ça sonne comme si le groupe n’avait jamais arrêté de jouer en live! Le groupe est en parfaite communion avec son public qui connaît chaque parole et brandit le poing férocement tout comme le frontman. There Is No Business to Be Done on a Dead Planet continue à faire remuer le public avant Black Gold Reign extrait de leur meilleur album Awaken The Dreamers. Juste avant ce dernier titre, Eddie prendra la parole pour prendre la température, annonçant qu’ils viennent toujours de Californie et que ça leur avait manqué de jouer à Londres toutes ces années. La foule est en liesse pour la suite avec Stabbing to Purge Dissimulation, Promises ou encore Deconstruction pour les plus nostalgiques d’entre nous!
Arrive Awaken The Dreamers sur lequel on finit par se rendre compte que ce n’est autre que le chanteur de Vulvodynia qui vibe à côté de nous depuis le début du set, le morceau est un classique qui n’a pas pris une ride! « Don’t be their fucking slaves » Wage Slaves est lancé après un petit discours de Eddie où il nous dit qu’il adore cette tournée et ce plateau, remercie le public pour toutes ces années et demande une ovation pour chaque groupe présent avec eux. Sur The Day Of Justice, on assiste à un circle-pit massif avant ce qui semble être le final sur Laid To Rest juste après ce morceau, le frontman annonce du nouveau son pour l’année prochaine ainsi qu’une prochaine tournée, inutile de dire qu’on est déjà dans les starting-blocks! Le grand final se fait There Is Nothing Left avant que le groupe ne quitte la scène tout sourire et sous une ovation bien méritée!
[ENGLISH VERSION] On 25 November, THE deathcore gig of the year took place, headlined by All Shall Perish, who were accompanied on their European tour by three bands: Acranius, Vulvodynia and Peeling Flesh. Let’s take a look back at this fantastic evening!
The evening got off to a strong start with Acranius. The German band was a big discovery for us (we know Acrania but not Acranius) and how can we put it? The sound is epic, heavy as fuck, and we simply felt like we were being run over with songs like Ghetto Brawl, Rule Of Seven and their latest single, Synchronized (a new song, Forced Dread, has been released since this concert), which gives us hope for a new album in 2026! In any case, it was an incredible discovery and we hope to see them again soon!
Next up are South Africa’s Vulvodynia, whom we haven’t seen since their concert in Paris in 2019. With Lwandile now on vocals (apparently there was still some drama on the Deathcore scene because he had originally resumed his position as guitarist), we didn’t expect much, but we were proven wrong! The band’s performance was really good, as was the sound, and with their latest album Entabeni under their belt, they dazzled us for 30 minutes. It was short, but it was very effective in warming up the audience! We still got to hear a few classics like Mob Justice and Psychosadistic Design for the finale!
The atmosphere is already electric in the audience after the first two bands, and Peeling Flesh is not about to cool things down – quite the contrary! For their first concert in London, the Americans are welcomed like royalty by an audience already completely won over! After a brief intro, it’s time for a dirty but joyful fight. Candy Coated Corpse sets the mood, getting straight to the point, which is exactly what you’d expect from this kind of evening, while No Custer Shit sees the first crowd surfing at the request of Damonteal Harris. Tear The Club Up and 12 Gauge Autopsy get the crowd even more hyped up, with everyone screaming the lyrics in unison. The atmosphere is so crazy that it almost feels like we’re watching a headliner show! On Beefy 5 Layer Penetrated Assault, the apocalypse resumes and despite the ‘No Crowdsurfing’ sign in the venue, security picks up dozens of slam dancers on this track. We can only salute one of the agents who gets into the spirit of all the sets tonight, under the smiles and sometimes laughter of his colleagues. The set concludes with F.F.W.A.S, and Peeling Flesh is even joined by Marcus from Acranius for a feature that sets the crowd on fire!
With Peeling Flesh’s set, one might almost wonder if the evening is already over, but no, there are still the veterans of Deathcore, All Shall Perish, back on stage after a break of more than ten years. For our part, we hadn’t seen them since their last appearance at Hellfest in 2012, which was quite a long time ago! We hadn’t even seen Eddie Hermida on stage with Suicide Silence in all those years, that’s how long it’s been.
The band kicked off their set with Eradication, the first track from the album The Price Of Existence, and it sounded as if they had never stopped playing live! The band was in perfect harmony with their audience, who knew every word and raised their fists fiercely, just like the frontman. There Is No Business to Be Done on a Dead Planet continued to get the audience moving before Black Gold Reign, taken from their best album Awaken The Dreamers. Just before this last track, Eddie took the mic to gauge the mood, announcing that they still come from California and that they had missed playing in London all these years. The crowd is jubilant for what follows with Stabbing to Purge Dissimulation, Promises and Deconstruction for the more nostalgic among us!
Awaken The Dreamers arrives and we finally realise that it is none other than the singer from Vulvodynia who has been rocking out next to us since the beginning of the set. The song is a classic that hasn’t aged a bit! ‘Don’t be their fucking slaves’ Wage Slaves is launched after a short speech by Eddie, in which he tells us how much he loves this tour and this line-up, thanks the audience for all these years and asks for a standing ovation for each band present with them. During The Day Of Justice, we witness a massive circle pit before what seems to be the finale with Laid To Rest. Right after this song, the frontman announces new music for next year as well as an upcoming tour. Needless to say, we’re already in the starting blocks! The grand finale is There Is Nothing Left before the band leaves the stage all smiles and to a well-deserved ovation!
