(English version below) Palaye Royale était de retour en ce 11 novembre pour une date à l’Olympia. Les américains avaient réalisé la première partie de Babymetal au Zénith plus tôt dans l’année (ils avaient remplacés Bad Omens suite à l’annulation de leur tour européen). C’est cette fois accompagné des anglais de Hot Milk mais également du groupe d’electronicore I see stars que nous avions la chance de les voir se produire à Paris.
Le concert débutait à 20h mais les portes ouvraient bien plus tôt, dès 18h30. L’attente fût donc très longue ! Nous avions grandement hâte, de notre côté, d’enfin voir I see stars et autant dire que le set des américains est passé, pour nous, à une vitesse folle ! Malgré un set de près de vingt-cinq minutes I see stars a créé la sensation dès son arrivée sur scène, le groupe est en effet largement applaudit dès son arrivée sur scène. Le public se laisse prendre au jeu et on assiste même à une tentative de wall of death durant Split. Mené par la voix aigue et atypique de Devin Olliver la formation comporte un claviériste, batteur, guitariste et bassiste. Côté setlist le groupe fera plaisir aux plus anciens fans avec des titres tels que Ten thousand feet. Devin, le chanteur, lance d’ailleurs le morceau en disant « If you know, you know! » Mais les fans les plus récents auront bien évidemment aussi leur lot de satisfaction avec Drift ou Anomaly. La soirée commence très fort avec le passage d’I see stars qu’on espère revoir très vite en Europe ! Devin prend en effet la température pour une prochaine venue en admettant qu’ils ont mis du temps à revenir outre Atlantique et en promettant de revenir prochainement. Il demande au public qui viendra les voir et des mains se lèvent de part et d’autres de la scène.
C’est aux alentours de 20h45 que les anglais de Hot Milk montent sur scène. Le groupe, originaire de Manchester au Royaume Uni, propose des sons entrainants et catchy qui séduisent assez rapidement le public et pourtant peu de personne semble les connaître ! Qu’à cela ne tienne, Hot Milk qui propose un set avec des morceaux tantôt joyeux tantôt plus sombres, fait sauter le public ! Dès son deuxième titre I just wanna know what happens when I’m dead on assiste à un petit circle pit même s’il reste encore timide. De notre côté, on passe un bon moment. On apprécie ce que la formation propose : deux personnes au chant, l’un est le leader avec un voix très aiguë et particulière quant à l’autre, également guitariste de la formation, fait les back. Les anglais proposent des mélodies chargées en émotion mais en même temps très entraînantes et dans lesquelles diverses influences musicales se mêlent : un peu d’électro dans certaines instru, on est par ailleurs surpris pas un morceau qui fait un peu RnB. Nous ne connaissions pas Hot Milk mais on peut dire que les anglais auront attisé notre curiosité !
C’est sous les applaudissements de son public que Palaye Royale fait son apparition sur scène à 21h45, une heure relativement tardive pour une partie principale de concert ! Les américains entrent par la porte centrale installée dans leur décor, lequel imite un bâtiment recouvert de posters qui comporte également des fenêtres. L’ensemble de la mise en scène est très rock, évidement ! Un promontoir est installé, sur celui-ci jouent le bassiste et le batteur de la formation. On peut lire, en dessous Death or Glory titre de cette tournée mais également de leur dernier album sorti cette année.
Dès le début du concert on entends massivement les fans hurler les paroles avec le leader vocal qui arrive en costume blanc et noir. Les américains sautillent sur scène et proposent une performance très énergique. Le chanteur enchaîne les titres rock et énergiques en calant des petits « Bonjour Paris » et « Merci » ce qui fait réagir le public au quart de tour. Un « Je t’aime » lancé juste avant avant « You’ll be fine« . « No love in LA » déclenche l’euphorie du public, le titre datant de 2020 était visiblement très attendu !
Palaye Royale revient sur son dernier album avec « Just my type » et des gros ballons blancs sont lancés dans le public qui s’éclate avec, l’ambiance de fête rock est décidément bien sympa. « C’est tellement cool d’être de retour à Paris, merci beaucoup ! » Palaye Royale remercie énormément son public au cours du set et semble très heureux de performer en France. Le concert avance dans une énergie folle et on assiste à Remington Leith qui chante sur une bouée et va dans le public pendant Showbiz. La fin du titre est l’occasion de remercier les groupes précédents pour leur participation au tour, le temps de souffler un peu.
On repart sur un titre plus calme : Dying in a hot tub. Les flash des téléphones sont allumés immédiatement par les fans et l’émotion est présente dans la salle où le temps semble s’arrêter, le morceau se conclue en une ovation de la foule. Palaye Royale prend la parole pour parler de sa première venue au Supersonic où seul 150 personnes étaient venues. Des bras se lèvent dans l’assistance car des fans y étaient présents. Après un énième remerciement au public le groupe amorce un morceau bien plus énergique et sur lequel le public saute partout : Fucking with my head est l’occasion pour l’apparition d’un circle pit au centre de la salle ! C’est un beau moment de partage avec son public très réceptif que nous offre les américains. On voit de part et d’autres des groupes de potes danser entre eux, ambiance bon enfant. La foule entière saute et fait trembler l’Olympia pourtant pas complet ce soir mais qu’à cela ne tienne ! La dernière chanson du set sera « youmakemenotwannadie« , un titre empreint de nostalgie et très calme. C’est à ce moment là que le vocaliste de la formation fait appeler sa petite amie sur scène et la demande en mariage dans l’euphorie générale. Des pétales rouges en forme de coeur sont lancées de part et d’autres de la scène, c’est super romantique : « there’s no better place than fuckin’ Paris !« . Emily a évidement acceptée cette demande saluée par les fans dans le salle.
Le groupe quitte la scène et le chanteur revient pour une morceau au piano seul sur scène : Lonely commence, la formation, en entier, revient pour poursuivre le morceau avec Remington Leith. Le public quant à lui assiste à ce moment en chantant les paroles en choeur. Le dernier titre de la soirée démarre et le groupe semble surexcité après ce concert mais aussi cette demande en mariage réussie. Palaye Royale fait se séparer la fosse en deux pour un wall of death explosif sur « Mr Doctor. Man« .
[ENGLISH VERSION] Palaye Royale was back in town on November 11th for a date at the Olympia. The Americans had opened for Babymetal at the Zénith earlier this year (they had replaced Bad Omens following the cancellation of their European tour). This time, accompanied by the English band Hot Milk and also the electronic band I see stars, we had the chance to see them perform in Paris.
The concert started at 8pm but the doors opened much earlier, at 6:30pm. The wait was therefore very long! For our part, we were really looking forward to finally seeing I see stars and it goes without saying that the Americans’ set went by, for us, at breakneck speed! Despite a set of nearly twenty-five minutes, I see stars created a sensation as soon as they arrived on stage, the band was indeed widely applauded as soon as they arrived on stage. The audience got caught up in the game and we even saw an attempt at a wall of death during Split. Led by the high-pitched and atypical voice of Devin Olliver, the band includes a keyboardist, drummer, guitarist and bassist. As for the setlist, the band will please the oldest fans with songs such as Ten thousand feet. Devin, the singer, starts the song by saying « If you know, you know! » But the most recent fans will of course also have their share of satisfaction with Drift or Anomaly. The evening starts very strong with the passage of I see stars that we hope to see again very soon in Europe! Devin indeed takes the temperature for a next visit by admitting that they took a while to come back across the Atlantic and promising to come back soon. He asks the audience who will come to see them and hands go up on both sides of the stage.
It is around 8:45 p.m. that the English band Hot milk take the stage. The band, originally from Manchester in the United Kingdom, offers lively and catchy sounds that seduce the audience quite quickly and yet few people seem to know them! No matter, Hot Milk, who offers a set with songs that are sometimes joyful and sometimes darker, makes the audience jump! From their second song I just wanna know what happens when I’m dead we witness a small circle pit even if it is still shy. For our part, we have a good time. We appreciate what the band offers: two people on vocals, one is the leader with a very high and particular voice while the other, also the band’s guitarist, does the backing. The English offer melodies loaded with emotion but at the same time very catchy and in which various musical influences are mixed: a bit of electro in some instrumentals, we are also surprised by a song that is a bit RnB. We did not know Hot Milk but we can say that the English will have piqued our curiosity!
It is under the applause of his audience that Palaye Royale makes his appearance on stage at 9:45 p.m., a relatively late hour for a main part of a concert! The Americans enter through the central door installed in their decor, which imitates a building covered in posters that also has windows. The whole staging is very rock, obviously! A promontory is installed, on it play the bassist and drummer of the band. We can read, below Death or Glory title of this tour but also of their last album released this year.
From the beginning of the concert we hear the fans massively screaming the lyrics with the vocal leader who arrives in a white and black suit. The Americans jump on stage and offer a very energetic performance. The singer chains the rock and energetic songs by fitting little « Bonjour Paris » and « Merci » which makes the audience react a quarter of the time. A « Je t’aime » launched just before « You’ll be fine« . « No love in LA » triggers the euphoria of the audience, the title dating from 2020 was obviously highly anticipated!
Palaye Royale returns to his latest album with « Just my type » and big white balloons are thrown into the audience who have a blast with it, the rock party atmosphere is definitely very nice. « It’s so cool to be back in Paris, thank you very much! » Palaye Royale thanks his audience enormously during the set and seems very happy to perform in France. The concert progresses with crazy energy and we see Remington Leith singing on a buoy and going into the audience during Showbiz. The end of the song is an opportunity to thank the previous groups for their participation in the tour, time to breathe a little.
We start again with a calmer song: Dying in a hot tub. The flashes of the phones are immediately turned on by the fans and the emotion is present in the room where time seems to stop, the song ends with a standing ovation from the crowd. Palaye Royale takes the floor to talk about his first visit to the supersonic where only 150 people had come. Arms are raised in the audience because fans were there. After yet another thank you to the audience, the group starts a much more energetic song to which the audience jumps everywhere: Fucking with my head is the occasion for the appearance of a circle pit in the center of the room! It is a beautiful moment of sharing with their very receptive audience that the Americans offer us. We see groups of friends dancing among themselves on both sides in a good-natured atmosphere. The entire crowd jumps and makes the Olympia tremble, although it is not full tonight, but that does not matter! The last song of the set will be « youmakemenotwannadie« , a title full of nostalgia and very calm. It is at this moment that the vocalist of the group calls his girlfriend on stage and proposes to her in the general euphoria. Red heart-shaped petals are thrown on both sides of the stage, it is super romantic: « there’s no better place than fuckin’ Paris! » Emily obviously accepted this request welcomed by the fans in the room.
The group leaves the stage and the singer comes back for a piece on the piano alone on stage: Lonely begins, the band, in full, comes back to continue the piece with Remington Leith. The audience, for its part, attends this moment by singing the lyrics in unison.
The last song of the evening starts and the group seems overexcited after this concert but also this successful marriage proposal. Palaye Royale makes the pit split in two for an explosive wall of death on « Mr Doctor. Man« .
