Un nouveau groupe de Metal Moderne Mélodique de Finlande fait son entrée dan le Metal Game, il s’appelle Unén, et sort son premier album intitulé Forever Winter, disponible à partir du 29 Août 2025 par le label Frontiers Records.
Le nom du groupe est un dérivé d’un mot finlandais qui signifie rêver ou s’endormir. Le groupe est composé de Stina Girs au chant, Kimmo Pitkänen et Harri Moilanen aux guitares, Petteri Sinervä aux claviers, Tomi Kallava à la basse et Timo Larjo à la batterie.
Pour commencer ce voyage à travers le temps, Prelude For The Wicked pose les termes de ce qui va se passer pendant l’écoute de cet album, de la mélodie avec beaucoup de mélancolie et d’émotion, donc il va falloir s’accrocher. Et c’est la que My Love’s Broken fait son entrée avec une mise en place qui promet plus de punch que ce qu’il y est annoncé. Avec un rythme constant et une justesse sans faille, cette nous explique TOUT, et surprend même avec une petite partie de chant guttural pendant le break. In My Bones est l’exemple type de l’hommage caché et pas assumé à une période, notamment celle de l’âge d’or du Metal Symphonique dans le début des années 2000 mais sans le côté Metal.
Black Heart va tenter de nous secouer dans un sommeil certain et cela sera évidemment sans succès. La partie que j’ai le plus appréciée dans cette chanson c’est le solo de guitare et le break sous forme de mini battle entre le clavier et la guitare. Place maintenant au titre éponyme : Forever Winter. Et bien il s’agit encore une fois d’une ballade Rock /Metal mélancolique, ce qui ne change pas vraiment depuis le début. Sky a un peu plus de potentiel pour se démarquer notamment avec un rythme à peine plus soutenu car on retrouve un peu les codes du Metal que l’on a l’habitude d’entendre. Game Over va de déception en déception, là où ça commençait à faire monter l’ambiance pour ensuite la faire exploser et bien là, ça retombe comme un soufflé pour nous endormir de nouveau. Spoil Me m’a bien surprise ave une introduction centrée sur la basse, mais c’est tout ce qui va sortir de l’ordinaire.
Unén propose un album qui pourrait plaire à beaucoup de personnes qui ne connaissent PAS DU TOUT l’univers du Metal. Les fans de Metal plus aguerris vont le trouver plutôt lent, en effet il s’agit surtout d’un album d’atmosphère ou d’ambiance qui s’écoute surtout pour déconnecter le cerveau et se laisser bercer par la mélodie. Amoureux de ballades Rock / Metal cet album est pour vous, car il s’agit d’un concentré de magnifiques compositions très douces mais qui manque cruellement de punch, surtout pour du Metal. Cependant quelques surprises se cache quand même, alors TENDEZ L’OREILLE. Il s’agit d’un sacré bond dans le passé à l’époque du Metal à la Evanescence qui remplissait notre esprit de mélancolie.

A new melodic modern metal band from Finland is entering the metal scene. They are called Unén, and their debut album, Forever Winter, will be released on August 29, 2025, by Frontiers Records.
The band’s name is derived from a Finnish word meaning “to dream” or “to fall asleep.” The band consists of Stina Girs on vocals, Kimmo Pitkänen and Harri Moilanen on guitars, Petteri Sinervä on keyboards, Tomi Kallava on bass, and Timo Larjo on drums.
To begin this journey through time, Prelude For The Wicked sets the tone for what is to come on this album, with a melody full of melancholy and emotion, so you’ll have to hang on tight. And that’s where My Love’s Broken comes in, with an introduction that promises more punch than it lets on. With a steady rhythm and flawless accuracy, it explains EVERYTHING to us, and even surprises us with a little bit of guttural singing during the break. In My Bones is a typical example of a hidden and unacknowledged tribute to a period, notably the golden age of symphonic metal in the early 2000s, but without the metal aspect.
Black Heart attempts to shake us out of our slumber, but obviously fails. The part I liked most about this song is the guitar solo and the break in the form of a mini battle between the keyboard and the guitar. Now it’s time for the title track: Forever Winter. Once again, it’s a melancholic rock/metal ballad, which hasn’t really changed since the beginning. Sky has a little more potential to stand out, particularly with a slightly faster rhythm, as it features some of the metal elements we’re used to hearing. Game Over goes from disappointment to disappointment, where it starts to build up the atmosphere and then explodes, only to fall flat and put us back to sleep. Spoil Me surprised me with a bass-centered intro, but that’s all that stands out from the ordinary.
Unén offers an album that could appeal to many people who are NOT AT ALL familiar with the world of metal. More seasoned metal fans will find it rather slow, as it is mainly an atmospheric album to listen to in order to disconnect your brain and let yourself be lulled by the melody. If you love rock/metal ballads, this album is for you, as it is a collection of beautiful, very soft compositions that sorely lack punch, especially for metal. However, there are still some surprises in store, so KEEP YOUR EARS OPEN. It’s a hell of a leap back in time to the era of Evanescence-style metal that filled our minds with melancholy.
