Le groupe britannique Tailgunner nous présente son deuxième album intitulé Midnight Blitz, disponible à partir du 6 février 2026 par le label Napalm Records.
Commençons ce retour dans le passé avec Midnight Blitz qui se présente avec des sirènes d’alarme. Et oui, un avertissement pour les plus nostalgiques d’entre vous, car ce premier titre combine tout ce qui est puissant dans le Heavy Metal britannique des années 80 qui sont aujourd’hui, des légendes. Avec un refrain bien catchy, ce titre fonctionne bien et promet une grande aventure musicale. Et pour l’instant la promesse est tenue avec Tears In Rain qui est un peu moins soutenu dans son rythme mais tout aussi intense. Blood Sacrifice va suivre d’ailleurs ce chemin comme si une boucle devait se boucler et elle méritait de conclure l’album tant le finish est grandiose.
Ralentissons encore un peu le rythme et la frénésie pour laisser place à un tempo beaucoup plus contrôlé avec un aspect moins anarchique sur Follow Me In Death. Même idée pour Dead Until Dark avec en prime un rendu plus iconique. Ces deux chansons sont efficaces et pourrait bien devenir les titres phares du groupe. Night Raids et Eye Of The Storm vont donc se ranger de ce côté de cet opus aux rythmes multiples.
Nous l’attendions comme dans tout bon classique du Heavy Metal, la ballade et c’est War In Heavens qui se charge de cette tâche et c’est plutôt bien réussi. Là où Barren Lands And Seas Of Red va être l’exact opposé et nous fournir une chanson typiquement inspirée Thrash Metal. Avec Eulogy, le groupe montre aussi qu’il maitrise l’orchestration de quoi offrir une conclusion digne de ce nom.
Tailgunner nous propose un album qui va sembler très répétitif pour les non initiés ou tous ceux qui n’aiment pas le genre, cependant pour les die hard fans de Heavy Metal c’est un hommage aux légendes qui se passe ici, avec une touche de jeunesse et de fraicheur.

British band Tailgunner presents its second album, Midnight Blitz, available February 6, 2026, on the Napalm Records label.
Let’s start this trip down memory lane with Midnight Blitz, which opens with alarm sirens. And yes, a warning for the most nostalgic among you, because this first track combines everything that is powerful in British heavy metal from the 80s, which is now legendary. With a catchy chorus, this track works well and promises a great musical adventure. And for now, the promise is kept with Tears In Rain, which is a little less sustained in its rhythm but just as intense. Blood Sacrifice follows suit, as if closing a loop, and deserves to conclude the album with its grandiose finish.
Let’s slow down the pace and frenzy a little more to make way for a much more controlled tempo with a less anarchic feel on Follow Me In Death. The same idea applies to Dead Until Dark, with the added bonus of a more iconic sound. These two songs are effective and could well become the band’s flagship tracks. Night Raids and Eye Of The Storm therefore fall on this side of this multi-rhythmic opus.
We were expecting it, as in any good Heavy Metal classic, the ballad, and War In Heavens takes on this task and does it rather well. Barren Lands And Seas Of Red is the exact opposite, providing us with a song typically inspired by thrash metal. With Eulogy, the band also shows that it has mastered orchestration, offering a conclusion worthy of the name.
Tailgunner offers us an album that may seem very repetitive to the uninitiated or those who don’t like the genre, but for die-hard heavy metal fans, it’s a tribute to the legends, with a touch of youth and freshness.
