(English version below) Après un premier passage chez nous en février les japonais de SiM étaient déjà de retour dans la capitale à l’occasion d’une seconde tournée européenne en un an ! Si on avait attendu le groupe de reggae/metal durant des ANNÉES on peut dire que cette fois-ci, l’attente fût brève ! C’est dans une salle drastiquement plus grande qu’ils étaient de retour, un Elysée Montmartre peut être un peu trop grand après un Backstage qui avait affiché sold out des mois en avance ! Néanmoins, tout s’explique peut être car nous étions, en ce 23 novembre, à la contre-soirée par excellence ! Sum41, le groupe phare d’une génération, se produisait à Paris pour sa dernière date en France… Ever. Alors il est temps pour nous de revenir sur cette soirée car nous n’avons pas du tout regretté notre choix. Nous remercions Veryshow pour son invitation.
La soirée commence dans une bonne humeur palpable, tout le monde parle du gros concert du jour et dans le public, la plupart ont clairement fait le choix de se rendre à l’Elysée Montmartre ce soir plutôt qu’à la Défense. Les fans des japonais répondaient, en quelque sorte, au rendez-vous qu’importe les circonstances ! C’est donc dans une ambiance de contre-soirée assumée que le concert démarre avec, cette fois-ci, une première partie. Les anglais de FROZEMODE entrent en scène pour 20h00 et même si leur style musical est clairement très différent de celui de la tête d’affiche, le trio de rappeur et leurs musiciens arrivent à mettre l’ambiance comme jamais. Les londoniens proposent tout les trois un style de rap très différent sur des sonorités drum and bass qui comportent des éléments empruntés à pleins d’autres genres. Le tout se veut comme une grosse fusion et on en retient surtout leur humour et leur bonne humeur. Sachant pertinemment que peu de personnes dans le public les connaissait, la formation ne se décourage pas et se fait même un plaisir de faire participer la foule de toute les manières possibles : lever les bras, chanter des paroles simples, faire de nombreuses blagues pour détendre l’atmosphère, un des rappeur se rend même à l’intérieur de la fosse… Et ça marche ! Nous avons passé un super moment et la salle est chaude pour le show des japonais à la fin du set de FROZEMODE.
21h sonne et l’impatience commence à se faire ressentir dans l’Elysée Montmartre. Pourtant, on n’aura pas attendu très longtemps entre le set des londoniens et celui des japonais ! SiM arrive sur scène avec une énergie folle qui est la leur, c’est la deuxième fois que l’on assiste à un concert du groupe en France et que ce soit un Backstage rempli à ras bord ou un Elysée Montmartre le groupe garde la même pêche ! Le set démarre fort avec Kiss of death et BBT tirés du dernier album mais, contrairement à sa date de février le groupe jouera au final davantage de titres sortis de leur discographie. Suivant les envies du public on peut d’ailleurs noter que chaque setlist est différente d’un pays à l’autre sur cette tournée, on ne savait donc pas à quoi nous aurions droit !
Avec un début de concert qui démarre fort on a vite chaud dans la fosse. Le moment est venue pour SiM de nous proposer un titre plus doux, Under the tree est le théâtre d’un karaoké géant avec ses fans, le temps pour nous de souffler dans un set électrique. Et l’alcalmie sera de très courte durée puisque les japonais enchaînent avec une série de titres plus iconiques les uns que les autres. Les afficionados de longue date seront servis ce soir : Blah Blah Blah est joué, encore une fois mais on se lasse décidément pas de cette chanson. Killing me balancé derrière sans pause a raison de notre souffle, la fosse est en délire et saute en choeur. Plus improbable car plus rarement joué SiM nous fait le plaisir de sortir A dans un set, le titre est notamment connu pour avoir été présent dans la bande son de Yakuza (jeux vidéo). On continu sur les bonnes surprises avec Amy que nous rêvions d’avoir en live et qui commence légèrement à dater : la chanson était sortie en 2012 !
Le groupe prend la parole pour exprimer sa joie d’être de retour en France. Si les japonais reconnaissent que la salle est un peu grande cette fois-ci, ils promettent de revenir et de remplir cet Elysée Montmartre !
Mah, chanteur de la formation, plaisante et raconte que le Backstage de la dernière fois était bien trop petit et qu’il était difficile de savoir quelle salle booker. Ce moment d’échange avec ce public est l’occasion de souffler un peu parce que SiM a encore beaucoup de choses à nous présenter ce soir. Si en février le public avait massivement demandé EXISTENCE, le groupe retient la leçon et nous joue le titre après cela. Ce dernier, sorti en 2014, est notamment connu pour avoir servi d’opening à l’anime Shingeki no bahamut. Le public est très heureux et cela se ressent dans la fosse puisqu’aux premières notes de la chanson on entends des réactions de surprise et de joie, évidemment les paroles seront chantées en choeur par les fans présents dans la salle.
La soirée se poursuit, SiM interagit beaucoup avec son public et continue son show énergique et loufoque. Mah s’équipe d’une batte de base-ball pendant BASEBALL BAT ou fait même semblant de fumer un joint et de s’étouffer avec pendant les moments plus reggae des titres, l’occasion de décrocher quelques sourires dans la foule. Le set des japonais se fini par l’incontournable The Rumbling, le titre le plus connu du groupe à ce jour puisqu’il s’agit d’une chanson écrite pour Shingeki no Kyojin. Dans la foule c’est de nouveau la folie et ça se bouscule pour hurler les paroles près du chanteur de la formation qui se prend décidément au jeu et tend le micro au public à plein de reprises. On ressent, encore une fois, que le morceau était très attendu par une partie de l’audience. Après ce moment fort en émotions, SiM quitte la scène de l’Elysée Montmartre en faisant des signes de remerciement au public. Celui-ci en redemande, évidement et le rappel sera rapide à obtenir tant la foule hurle en chœur pour que les japonais reviennent !
Nous aurons droit ce soir à deux titres supplémentaires : Do the dance du dernier album ainsi que f.a.i.t.h plus improbable ! Le titre en question était sorti en 2013 en featuring avec Kenta Koie, vocaliste de Crossfaith, groupe de metalcore japonais avec lequel SiM a de très nombreuses fois collaboré. Le concert fini donc en beauté pour nous puisque nous sommes fans des deux groupes en question !
SiM reste quelques instants sur la scène pour remercier son public d’être venu ce soir, ils nous disent que Paris est une grande ville, avec beaucoup de choses à faire, et qu’ils sont très heureux que chaque personne de la salle ait choisie d’être présentes ce soir plutôt qu’ailleurs. Ils prennent le temps de saluer les fans, de distribuer eux mêmes des médiators ainsi que les setlists de la soirée et repartent tout sourire, visiblement satisfaits de ce concert.
[ENGLISH VERSION] After a first visit to our place in February, the Japanese group SiM were already back in the capital for a second European tour in a year! If we had waited for the reggae/metal group for YEARS, we can say that this time, the wait was short! It was in a drastically larger venue that they were back, an Elysée Montmartre that was perhaps a little too big after a Backstage that had been sold out months in advance! Nevertheless, everything can perhaps be explained because we were, on this November 23, at the ultimate counter-party! Sum41, the flagship group of a generation, was performing in Paris for its last date in France… Ever. So it is time for us to come back to this evening because we did not regret our choice at all. We thank Veryshow for their invitation.
The evening begins in a palpable good mood, everyone is talking about the big concert of the day and in the audience, most have clearly chosen to go to the Elysée Montmartre tonight rather than to La Défense. The Japanese fans responded, in a way, to the meeting no matter the circumstances! It is therefore in an assumed counter-party atmosphere that the concert begins with, this time, a first part. The English of FROZEMODE enter the stage at 8:00 p.m. and even if their musical style is clearly very different from that of the headliner, the trio of rappers and their musicians manage to set the mood like never before. The Londoners all three offer a very different style of rap on drum and bass sounds that include elements borrowed from many other genres. The whole thing is meant to be like a big fusion and we especially remember their humor and their good humor. Knowing full well that few people in the audience knew them, the band doesn’t get discouraged and even takes pleasure in getting the crowd involved in every possible way: raising their arms, singing simple lyrics, making lots of jokes to relax the atmosphere, one of the rappers even goes inside the pit… And it works! We had a great time and the room is hot for the Japanese show at the end of FROZEMODE‘s set.
9pm rings and impatience begins to be felt in the Elysée Montmartre. However, we will not have waited very long between the Londoners’ set and the Japanese one! SiM arrives on stage with a crazy energy that is theirs, it is the second time that we attend a concert of the group in France and whether it is a Backstage filled to the brim or an Elysée Montmartre the group keeps the same energy! The set starts strong with Kiss of death and BBT taken from the last album but, unlike its date in February the group will play more tracks from their discography in the end. Depending on the desires of the public we can also note that each setlist is different from one country to another on this tour, so we did not know what we would be entitled to!
With a start of concert that starts strong we quickly get hot in the pit. The time has come for SiM to offer us a softer title, Under the tree is the scene of a giant karaoke with his fans, time for us to blow in an electric set. And the lull will be very short-lived since the Japanese continue with a series of titles more iconic than the others. Long-time fans will be served tonight: Blah Blah Blah is played, once again but we definitely do not get tired of this song. Killing me thrown behind without pause gets the better of us, the crowd is delirious and jumps in unison. More improbable because more rarely played SiM gives us the pleasure of releasing A in a set, the title is notably known for having been present in the soundtrack of Yakuza (video games). We continue on the good surprises with Amy that we dreamed of having live and which is starting to date slightly: the song was released in 2012! The group takes the floor to express its joy of being back in France. If the Japanese admit that the room is a bit big this time, they promise to come back and fill this Elysée Montmartre!
Mah, the singer of the band, jokes and says that the Backstage last time was much too small and that it was difficult to know which room to book. This moment of exchange with this audience is the opportunity to breathe a little because SiM still has a lot of things to present to us tonight. If in February the audience had massively requested EXISTENCE, the band learned its lesson and plays us the title after that. The latter, released in 2014, is notably known for having served as the opening for the anime Shingeki no bahamut. The audience is very happy and it is felt in the pit since at the first notes of the song we hear reactions of surprise and joy, obviously the words will be sung in unison by the fans present in the room.
The evening continues, SiM interacts a lot with his audience and continues his energetic and crazy show. Mah equips himself with a baseball bat during BASEBALL BAT or even pretends to smoke a joint and choke on it during the more reggae moments of the songs, the opportunity to get a few smiles in the crowd. The Japanese set ends with the essential The Rumbling, the most famous song of the group to date since it is a song written for Shingeki no Kyojin. In the crowd it is again madness and people jostle to shout the lyrics near the singer of the group who is definitely getting into the game and holds the microphone to the audience many times. We feel, once again, that the song was highly anticipated by part of the audience. After this emotional moment, SiM leaves the stage of the Elysée Montmartre while making signs of thanks to the audience. The latter asks for more, obviously and the encore will be quickly obtained as the crowd screams in unison for the Japanese to come back!
Tonight we will be treated to two additional tracks: Do the dance from the latest album as well as f.a.i.t.h, the more improbable! The track in question was released in 2013 featuring Kenta Koie, vocalist of Crossfaith, a Japanese metalcore band with which SiM has collaborated many times. The concert therefore ended beautifully for us since we are fans of both bands in question!
SiM stayed on stage for a few moments to thank his audience for coming tonight, they told us that Paris is a big city, with lots of things to do, and that they were very happy that everyone in the room chose to be there tonight rather than elsewhere. They took the time to greet the fans, to hand out guitar picks themselves as well as the setlists of the evening and left all smiles, visibly satisfied with this concert.
