Le groupe russe Nytt Land nous présente son nouvel album intitulé Aba Khan, disponible le 20 février 2026.
Peu connu en France, il se démarque par leur style pour le moins atypique, surtout dans la composition. On y trouve instruments classiques, mais surtout des instruments traditionnels telle que le Kantele (instrument à cordes pincées originaire de Finlande) ou encore la Talharpa ( Lyre à archet à 4 cordes originaire de l’Europe du Nord), et pour le chant il s’agit principalement de chant diphonique ( le chanteur produit deux sons en même temps), ici c’est principalement le chant de gorge qui est présenté.
La particularité de ce groupe est le peu de paroles présentes dans les chansons, la majorité de l’émotion se passe par l’instrumental et l’interprétation du décor sonore, avec ajout des bruits naturels de la forêt. L’univers Pagan est bien présent puisque l’entièreté des paroles sont écrites en vieux Norrois (Scandinave médiéval) et en ancien Islandais. Les thèmes abordés sont souvent inspirés de la mythologie scandinave.
Par exemple dans Aba Khan, le texte pourrait correspondre à une incantation récitée au cours d’un rituel, pour Taiga, ce dernier imagerait plutôt les rétrospections personnelles d’une personne autour du même rituel. Dans Prayer, il s’agit d’une prière ou incantation de guérison, Totem sera la représentation de la divinité maléfique ou non dans ce récit. Mansi va mettre en avant la proie se faisant chasser par son prédateur. The Oath est le serment représenté par une traversée de la rivière et enfin Tygir Tayil (Heavenly Sacrifice) qui serait la fin du voyage par l’ultime sacrifice ou l’appel de la divinité.
Notre conseil : si le Neofolk ambiant / Pagan vous intéresse, alors Nytt Land est la perle rare qu’il vous faut. Tout est absolument harmonieux et transcendant, un véritable voyage au cœur de la mythologie scandinave qui se déguste avec envie, passion et attention du début jusqu’à la fin.

The Russian band Nytt Land presents its new album entitled Aba Khan, available on February 20, 2026.
Little known in France, the band stands out for its unusual style, especially in terms of composition. It features classical instruments, but above all traditional instruments such as the kantele (a plucked string instrument from Finland) and the talharpa (a 4-string bowed lyre from Northern Europe). The vocals are mainly overtone singing (the singer produces two sounds at the same time), with throat singing being the main technique used here.
The distinctive feature of this group is the lack of lyrics in the songs, with most of the emotion conveyed through the instrumental music and the interpretation of the soundscape, with the addition of natural forest sounds. The pagan universe is very present, as all the lyrics are written in Old Norse (medieval Scandinavian) and Old Icelandic. The themes addressed are often inspired by Scandinavian mythology.
For example, in Aba Khan, the lyrics could correspond to an incantation recited during a ritual, while in Taiga, they imagine a person’s personal reflections on the same ritual. Prayer is a prayer or incantation for healing, while Totem represents the evil or benevolent deity in this story. Mansi highlights the prey being hunted by its predator. The Oath is represented by a river crossing, and finally Tygir Tayil (Heavenly Sacrifice) is the end of the journey through the ultimate sacrifice or the call of the deity.
Our advice: if you’re interested in ambient/pagan neofolk, then Nytt Land is the rare gem you need. Everything is absolutely harmonious and transcendent, a true journey into the heart of Scandinavian mythology that can be enjoyed with desire, passion, and attention from beginning to end.
