[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] L’artiste Mothica s’apprête à sortir ce vendredi 20 février, son nouvel EP intitulé Somewhere In Between via son nouveau label Sharptone Records. Ecrit dans un contexte de reconstruction suite à une rechute dans ses addictions, ce nouvel EP peut être considéré comme une renaissance pour Mckenzie Ellis (Mothica).
Et Somewhere In Between s’ouvre avec le single EVERGREEN MISERY, un morceau mélancolique qui reste presque amusant avec un refrain captivant qui reste bien en tête. Les guitares puissantes guident la voix de la chanteuse qui se veut envoûtante sur un morceau gorgé d’émotions qui va atteindre les auditeurs en plein coeur. L’inédit Weapon continue dans la puissance, un refrain porté par des choeurs, une ambiance sombre mais qui correspond parfaitement à ce que l’artiste souhaite dépeindre ici avec une voix délicate mais puissante et un break avec des coups de couteaux mais également un coup de feu. Mais également des paroles qui devraient parler à beaucoup telles que « self-destruction is my pass time ». On continue avec Save Your Roses, dernier single dévoilé , change un peu d’énergie avec un côté un peu plus Pop mais un refrain bien plus énergique en font un morceau incontournable ici et très accrocheur. Les paroles évoquent le sentiment d’ivresse que procure les drogues et parle de l’expérience de sobriété de Mothica, le refrain est né d’une conversation avec un fan après sa date parisienne qui disait qu’il fallait offrir des fleurs à ses proches tant qu’ils sont encore là d’où le « Don’t save your roses for my grave » du refrain. Là encore une certaine puissance émotionnelle se dégage de ce morceau et c’est ce qui en fait sa beauté.
Deux derniers titres pour compléter cet EP avec en premier Bullet, la voix presque angélique de l’artiste contraste avec la dureté et la noirceur des paroles (« always reaching for the roses just to embrace the thorns ») et aborde parfaitement la lutte qu’elle dû mener pour se débarrasser de ses démons mais également les sentiments d’inconfort qui l’ont accompagnée. C’est le morceau éponyme Somewhere In Between qui va conclure ce nouveau chapitre de Mothica, un côté chaud mais aussi plus froid se combattent entre les couplets qui semblent plus froid et très noirs et le refrain puissant avec des guitares qui rappellent les travaux de Spiritbox (par exemple) qui souffle d’un coup le chaud et presque une certaine lumière.
Ce nouvel EP de Mothica est un nouvel ajout somptueux à sa discographie, un EP nécessaire pour elle qui apportera sûrement du réconfort à ceux qui sauront l’interpréter comme il faut. C’est envoûtant tout en restant sombre et c’est au final probablement ce genre de dualité qui plaira au plus grand nombre!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Artist Mothica is set to release her new EP, Somewhere In Between, on Friday, February 20, via her new label Sharptone Records. Written in the context of rebuilding her life following a relapse into addiction, this new EP can be seen as a rebirth for Mckenzie Ellis (Mothica).
Somewhere In Between opens with the single EVERGREEN MISERY, a melancholic track that remains almost playful with a captivating chorus that sticks in your head. Powerful guitars guide the singer’s spellbinding voice on an emotionally charged track that will strike listeners right in the heart. The unreleased Weapon continues the powerful vibe, with a chorus carried by backing vocals and a dark atmosphere that perfectly matches what the artist wants to portray here, with a delicate but powerful voice and a break featuring knife stabs and a gunshot. But there are also lyrics that should resonate with many, such as “self-destruction is my pass time.” We continue with Save Your Roses, the latest single released, which changes the energy a little with a slightly more pop feel, but a much more energetic chorus makes it an essential and very catchy track. The lyrics evoke the feeling of intoxication that drugs provide and talk about Mothica‘s experience of sobriety. The chorus was born from a conversation with a fan after her Paris date, who said that you should give flowers to your loved ones while they are still here, hence the “Don’t save your roses for my grave” in the chorus. Once again, this track exudes a certain emotional power, and that’s what makes it so beautiful.
The last two tracks complete this EP, starting with Bullet, where the artist’s almost angelic voice contrasts with the harshness and darkness of the lyrics (“always reaching for the roses just to embrace the thorns”) and perfectly captures the struggle she had to go through to get rid of her demons, as well as the feelings of discomfort that accompanied her. The eponymous track Somewhere In Between concludes this new chapter for Mothica, with a warm side battling a colder one between the verses, which seem colder and very dark, and the powerful chorus with guitars reminiscent of the work of Spiritbox (for example), which suddenly blows in warmth and almost a certain light.
This new EP from Mothica is a sumptuous addition to her discography, a necessary EP for her that will surely bring comfort to those who know how to interpret it properly. It’s haunting while remaining dark, and in the end, it’s probably this kind of duality that will appeal to the greatest number of people!
