Le groupe suédois de Folk / Black Metal Atmosphérique Månegarm présentent leur nouvel album intitulé Edsvuren, disponible à partir du 29 Août 2025, par le label Napalm Records. Il marque les 30 ans de carrière du groupe !
Partons célébrer cet anniversaire avec tout d’abord I Skogsfruns Famn qui arrive tout doucement avec une introduction vocale à la limite du chant de gorge, pour ensuite continuer avec une rythmique assez entêtante et qui se fredonne plutôt facilement. Ce titre est également un featuring avec Lea Grawsiö Lindström qui n’est autre que la fille du leader Erik Grawsiö. Lögrinns Värn continue le même cheminement avec en prime un break dotée d’un solo de guitare absolument interminable. Et un cri de guerre en guise d’introduction pour En Blodvittneskrans qui continue de marquer les esprits et de faire headbanger avec une mélodie assez soutenue qui ne laisse pas de moment de répit. Pour l’instant cette célébration se déroule sans accros. Tout comme En Nidings DåD qui en prime nous permet d’avoir un jolie solo de violon, oui oui de violon.
Rodhins Hav, I Runor Ristades Orden et Skild Från Hugen ont un point en commun : celui de faire apparaitre la chanteuse suédoise Ellinor Videfors, qui n’est pas à sa première collaboration avec le groupe puisqu’elle apparait depuis 2015 avec 8 chansons à son actif mais aussi des chœurs. Si les deux premières sont assez calmes, posés et courtes, ce n’est pas le cas de la dernière qui elle fait 7 minutes; mais 7 minutes de prouesse technique et d’histoire musicale incroyable.
Till Gudars Följe contraste un peu avec le reste avec son rythme qui respire la gaieté et la joie de vivre et cela s’explique tout simplement avec la présence de la guitare sèche. Une bonne surprise dans cet album qui s’annonçait relativement sombre depuis le début. J’ai presqu’envie de faire un feu et de réunir quelques amis pour partager une chanson au coin du feu.
Edsvuren voit l’ultime collaboration de cet opus avec Liv Hope Lenard, chanteuse du groupe Fredlös, qui envoûte tout le monde dès les premières notes. L’harmonie des voix créer une chanson à couper le souffle et qui fait du bien et apaise la tempête, mais offre une incroyable transition pour l’outro qu’est Ofredsfylgjor. Je vous laisserai juste apprécier la beauté pur de ce morceau.
Månegarm nous offre encore un album incroyable. Doté d’une puissance atmosphérique et de Guest de qualité, le groupe s’est encore surpasser, pour toujours nous surprendre, avec une large gamme de rythme, d’écoute et d’interprétation qui ne laissera personne indifférente même avec 30 ans de carrière. Cet album marque permet au groupe de se placer comme l’un des incontournables du Folk / Black Metal Atmosphérique.

Swedish atmospheric folk/black metal band Månegarm present their new album, Edsvuren, available from August 29, 2025, on the Napalm Records label. It marks the band’s 30th anniversary!
Let’s celebrate this anniversary with I Skogsfruns Famn, which starts off slowly with a vocal introduction bordering on throat singing, then continues with a rather catchy rhythm that is easy to hum along to. This track also features Lea Grawsiö Lindström, who is none other than the daughter of frontman Erik Grawsiö. Lögrinns Värn continues in the same vein, with the added bonus of a break featuring a seemingly endless guitar solo. And a battle cry serves as the introduction to En Blodvittneskrans, which continues to make an impression and get heads banging with a fairly sustained melody that leaves no room for respite. For now, this celebration is going smoothly. Just like En Nidings DåD, which also treats us to a lovely violin solo—yes, violin.
Rodhins Hav, I Runor Ristades Orden, and Skild Från Hugen have one thing in common: they feature Swedish singer Ellinor Videfors, who is no stranger to the band, having appeared since 2015 with eight songs to her credit, as well as backing vocals. While the first two are fairly calm, laid-back, and short, the last one is not, clocking in at seven minutes—but seven minutes of technical prowess and incredible musical history.
Till Gudars Följe contrasts a bit with the rest, with its rhythm exuding cheerfulness and joie de vivre, which can be explained simply by the presence of the acoustic guitar. It’s a pleasant surprise on this album, which had seemed relatively dark from the outset. It almost makes me want to light a fire and gather some friends to share a song by the fireside.
Edsvuren sees the final collaboration on this opus with Liv Hope Lenard, singer with the band Fredlös, who captivates everyone from the very first notes. The harmony of the voices creates a breathtaking song that feels good and calms the storm, but offers an incredible transition to the outro, Ofredsfylgjor. I’ll just let you appreciate the pure beauty of this track.
Månegarm has once again delivered an incredible album. With atmospheric power and high-quality guest artists, the band has surpassed itself once again, always surprising us with a wide range of rhythms, sounds, and interpretations that will leave no one indifferent, even after a 30-year career. This album marks the band’s position as one of the essential names in atmospheric folk/black metal.
