2 ans après la sortie de leur précédent opus « Bestia« , le groupe allemand Erdling nous présente son septième album studio intitulé Mana, disponible à partir du 17 octobre 2025 par le label Out Of Line Music.
Autant ne pas perdre de temps avec Aurora qui sert d’ouverture avec une facilité déconcertante et une aisance comme s’il n’était jamais parti. Un titre qui s’écoute très bien et qui reste bien accrocheur. Un peu comme Dominus Omnium qui est la suite logique sans grande prise de risque. Et cela se répercute aussi avec Miasma aux influences Power mais sans trop l’assumer, ce qui est dommage car cette chanson avait le potentiel de se démarquer si cela avait été plus poussé.
Steh Den Sturm va essayer de se faire une place avec un coté plus Metal notamment dans la rythmique de la guitare qui va être plus grave et saturée, en plus d’avoir un tempo bien marqué, et en prime un solo bien exécuté, dommage que le chant ne soit pas à la hauteur de ce qui est présenté. Bien évidemment que la prochaine chanson Los Los Los va suivre le même chemin en temps répétitive et assez pauvre … cependant Ohne Uns va continuer à faire descendre la pente de cet opus. Par contre la basse sur ce dernier est un pur régale.
Un peu de liberté avec Hinter Drunklen Wolken qui commence comme pourrait commencer un titre de Eisbrecher mais la ressemblance ou les similitudes vont s’arrêter là, car cela manque cruellement de punch et de hargne pour en faire un titre inoubliable. Alles Dreht Sich est un feat avec Melissa Brusschi du groupe Hand Of Juno où elle apparait trop peu (même pas le temps de dire à peine 3 phrases et de faire un peu de chant guttural).
Zerspreng Die Ketten est encore l’exemple type d’une chanson dont l’introduction promet une chanson incroyable mais qui n’envoie rien, et le problème c’est que cela se reproduit avec le titre Mana. Pour conclure cet opus Sternenschimmer qui se veux mélancolique mais tellement mal faite avec une vibe du début des années 2000 mais en moins bien reproduite.
Erdling nous propose un album plat, sans prise de risque, sans énergie et surtout très répétitif, malgré de bonnes idées et une volonté de bien faire le groupe n’aura décidément par réussi a me faire aimer cet album ou d’en faire un banger de cette année. J’irai quand même voir en live si jamais un jour l’occasion se présente afin de me faire un avis différent ou pas.

Two years after the release of their previous album, “Bestia,” German band Erdling presents its seventh studio album, entitled Mana, available October 17, 2025, on the Out Of Line Music label.
Let’s not waste any time with Aurora, which serves as the opening track with disconcerting ease and a fluency as if it had never left. It’s a very listenable track that sticks in your head. A bit like Dominus Omnium, which is the logical follow-up without taking any big risks. This is also reflected in Miasma, with its power metal influences, but without really embracing them, which is a shame because this song had the potential to stand out if it had been pushed further.
Steh Den Sturm tries to carve out a place for itself with a more metal feel, particularly in the guitar rhythm, which is deeper and more saturated, as well as having a strong tempo and a well-executed solo. It’s a shame that the vocals don’t live up to the rest of the song. Of course, the next song, Los Los Los, follows the same repetitive and rather poor path… However, Ohne Uns continues to drag this album down. On the other hand, the bass on this track is a pure delight.
There’s a little freedom with Hinter Drunklen Wolken, which starts off like an Eisbrecher track might, but the resemblance or similarities end there, as it sorely lacks the punch and aggression to make it an unforgettable track. Alles Dreht Sich is a collaboration with Melissa Brusschi from the band Hand Of Juno, where she appears too little (not even enough time to say three sentences and do a little guttural singing).
Zerspreng Die Ketten is another typical example of a song whose introduction promises an incredible track but fails to deliver, and the problem is that this happens again with the track Mana. To conclude this opus, Sternenschimmer aims to be melancholic but is so poorly executed, with an early 2000s vibe that is not as well reproduced.
Erdling offers us a flat album, without taking any risks, without energy and, above all, very repetitive. Despite some good ideas and a desire to do well, the band has definitely failed to make me love this album or make it one of this year’s bangers. I’ll still go and see them live if the opportunity ever arises, to see if I change my mind or not.
