Ensiferum revient avec un neuvième album studio intitulé Winter Storm, disponible à partir du 18 octobre 2024 par le label Metal Blade Records.
Cet album a une particularité car les paroles sont basées sur un roman fantastique non publié de Sami Hinkka et que même si tout ça parait loin, c’est vraiment une histoire épique et que ce serait aussi un album plus « musical » que les albums traditionnels. Et bien on va vérifier tout ça !
Et c’est Aurora qui ouvre la bal en servant d’introduction au morceau suivant Winter Storm Vigilantes, qui reprend le flambeau avec punch et frénésie. Avec plusieurs variations de rythme et un break limite orchestral, le groupe offre un bon départ.
Long Cold Winter Of Sorrox And Strife est clairement une chanson que je verrais très bien dans Game Of Thrones ou encore Skyrim et qui illustrerait un long périple dans la contrée lointaine pour aller bouter les ennemis hors du pays. A contrario de Fatherland qui tabasse beaucoup plus avec quand même de sacrés refrains remplis de chœurs qui prennent aux tripes.
Scars In My Heart crée la surprise en ayant un chant 100% féminin et cela colle parfaitement à la mélodie qui est très douce et l’embellit, une vraie valeur ajoutée. Une chanson portée par la voix impressionnante de Madeleine Liljestam du groupe Eleine.
Resistentia est une petite interlude avec un sacré ressenti voix off de moment dramatique et un léger moment acoustique sur la fin pour accentuer ce côté là. Et The Howl vient complétement casser la beauté pour la remplacer par la brutalité pure. Un véritable ascenseur émotionnel puisqu’avec From Order To Chaos on est sur le fil entre mélodie douce et précise et force et robustesse, et cela pendant plus de 8 minutes.
Une conclusion en deux parties avec Leniret Coram Tempestate en 38 secondes et qui sert de mise en garde pour Victorious qui va narrer la victoire tant attendue du héros de cette histoire avec force, puissance et beaucoup de riffs épiques pour un sacré final.
Ensiferum nous propose un album riche en histoire et mélodies mais également en puissance avec notamment mon coup de cœur pour Scars In My Heart chanté par Madeleine Liljestam d’Eleine qui apporte vraiment une touche en plus. Plus de collaborations comme celle ci serait fortement apprécié.

This album is unusual in that the lyrics are based on an unpublished fantasy novel by Sami Hinkka, and although it sounds far-fetched, it really is an epic story, and it’s also said to be more “musical” than traditional albums. Well, let’s find out!
And it’s Aurora that opens the ball, serving as an introduction to the following track Winter Storm Vigilantes, which takes up the torch with punch and frenzy. With several rhythmic variations and an almost orchestral break, the band gets things off to a good start.
Long Cold Winter Of Sorrox And Strife is clearly a song I’d see in Game Of Thrones or Skyrim, illustrating a long journey into the far country to drive the enemies out. Fatherland, on the other hand, is a much more hard-hitting track, with a chorus-filled chorus that really gets under your skin.
Scars In My Heart surprises with its 100% female vocals, which fit in perfectly with the melody, which is very gentle and embellishes it, a real added value. A song carried by the impressive voice of Madeleine Liljestam from Eleine.

And The Howl completely shatters the beauty, replacing it with pure brutality. From Order To Chaos is a real emotional elevator, as it straddles the line between gentle, precise melody and forceful, robust sound for over 8 minutes.
A conclusion in two parts with Leniret Coram Tempestate, 38 seconds long, serves as a warning for Victorious, which narrates the long-awaited victory of the hero of this story with strength, power and lots of epic riffs for one hell of a finale.
Ensiferum offers us an album rich in story and melody, but also in power, with Scars In My Heart, sung by Eleine’s Madeleine Liljestam, being a particular highlight. More collaborations like this would be much appreciated.
