[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW ] C’était l’événement parisien à ne pas manquer de ce 14 mars, Crystal Lake et Miss May I étaient tout deux de retour pour un concert en co-healine au Nouveau Casino de Paris. C’est accompagné des australiens de Diesect et des américains de Great American Ghost que les deux formations se présentaient. Une date qui promettait d’être explosive et que nous ne pouvions donc pas manquer !
Nous sommes samedi et pourtant il y a peu de monde devant le Nouveau Casino de Paris. Les portes ouvrent tôt puisqu’il est 18h et les premiers arrivés prennent donc place. La soirée démarre dès 18h30 avec Diesect, un groupe pleins d’énergie originaire d’Australie. Si nous ne connaissions pas du tout nous sommes vite séduis pas l’énergie du groupe qui semble ravie d’être en Europe pour la toute première fois. Le public se veut plutôt réceptif et on assiste donc aux premières ouvertures du pit largement encouragées par le groupe. Au menu on retrouve des titres de Hide From The Light, du bon metalcore aux diverses influences (hardcore, deathcore ou encore industriel).
Il est 19h50 quand Great American Ghost prend place sur scène. Nous ne connaissions pas du tout, nous sommes donc dans la découverte totale encore une fois. Le groupe de hardcore est originaire du Massachusetts et visiblement engagé comme en témoigne la veste portée par le vocaliste de la formation « American kills facists ». Le groupe enchaîne avec une efficacité féroces ses titres et l’ambiance monte dans la salle, le groupe est efficace dans sa prestation de première partie. Nous aurons notamment droit à beaucoup de titre de Tragedy of The Commons, leur dernier album paru en janvier 2025. Moment phare de leur prestation, Ethan chantera dans le circle pit formé par le public sur leur dernier morceau « Forsaken« .
À mesure que la soirée avance la place se fait rare au Nouveau Casino de Paris. Si le concert n’a pas affiché complet nous sommes prêts à parier que c’était presque le cas. C’est désormais aux Américains de Miss May I de passer sur scène – les deux headliners faisant chacun leur tour concernant l’ordre de passage sur scène – il est déjà 20h05, nous n’avons pas vu le temps passer ! Les américains nous régalerons ce soir d’une setlist super riche et variée d’une bonne partie de leur discographie, les fans de tout bords pouvaient donc trouver leur compte ! Quant à celles et ceux qui ne connaissaient pas, voici donc un bel aperçu de ce que propose Miss May I. On commence donc avec Shadows Inside (2017) et on passe par des chansons phares telles que Pray For Silence (2025), Hey Mister (2012) ou Forgive and Forget (2009). Le groupe est salué tout le long par les fans très nombreux présents dans la salle : la fosse bouge bien et chante en rythme tout au long du set des américains, un vrai plaisir ! Le groupe remercie le public pour cette soirée après une douzaine de titre et quitte la scène.
Il est 21h25 quand les japonais prennent place sur scène. Il est désormais temps pour nous d’enfin écouter les nouvelles chansons de la formation puisque les japonais ont sorti leur album Weight of The Sound l’année dernière. L’occasion d’écouter les nouveaux titres avec John au chant sur des compositions faites pour lui. Fidèles à leur habitude Crystal Lake propose un show haut en couleurs avec une énergie dévastatrice transmise immédiatement à un public prêt et qui sait. Qui sait que ce groupe hardcore/metalcore attends de ses fans. Au programme un show d’une intensité rare mais très court puisque le groupe a enchaîné seulement dix titres, on reste peut être un peu sur notre faim… Malgré tout on est très contents de découvrir Nerversleep, Everlack ou encore The Weight of Sound en live. Plaisir partagé par un public bouillants avec de nombreux crowdsurfers. Nous avons également le bonheur d’entendre des classiques du groupe tels que Appolo ou Lost in Forever. Crystal Lake sait nous montrer que les membres ont toujours la pêche malgré les nombreuses tournées enchaînées ces dernières années ! On repart très satisfait malgré tout de cette soirée.
[ENGLISH VERSION] It was the Parisian event not to be missed on March 14th: Crystal Lake and Miss May I were both back for a co-headline concert at the Nouveau Casino de Paris. They were joined by the Australian band Diesect and the American band Great American Ghost. It promised to be an explosive show, and we simply couldn’t miss it!
It’s Saturday, yet there are few people outside the Nouveau Casino de Paris. The doors open early, at 6 pm, and the first arrivals take their seats. The evening kicks off at 6:30 pm with Diesect, an energetic band from Australia. Although we were completely unfamiliar with them, we were quickly won over by the band’s energy, who seemed thrilled to be in Europe for the very first time. The crowd was quite receptive, and we witnessed the first mosh pits, enthusiastically encouraged by the band. On the setlist were tracks from Hide From The Light, solid metalcore with diverse influences (hardcore, deathcore, and even industrial).
It was 7:50 PM when Great American Ghost took the stage. We were completely unfamiliar with them, so it was another complete discovery. The hardcore band hails from Massachusetts and is clearly politically engaged, as evidenced by the jacket worn by the vocalist of the band, « American Kills Fascists. » The band delivered a ferociously efficient set, and the atmosphere in the venue intensified. They put on a solid opening set. We were treated to many tracks from Tragedy of the Commons, their latest album released in January 2025. A highlight of their performance was when Ethan sang in the circle pit formed by the audience during their last song, « Forsaken. »
As the evening progressed, space became scarce at the Nouveau Casino de Paris. While the concert wasn’t officially sold out, we’re willing to bet it was nearly. Now it’s Miss May I‘s turn to take the stage – the two headliners taking turns in the order of appearance – it’s already 8:05 PM, time has flown by! The Americans treated us to a super rich and varied setlist from a good portion of their discography, so fans of all stripes were sure to find something to enjoy! For those unfamiliar with them, here’s a great overview of what Miss May I has to offer. They started with Shadows Inside (2017) and moved on to hit songs like Pray For Silence (2025), Hey Mister (2012), and Forgive and Forget (2009). The band received enthusiastic applause from the large crowd: the pit was moving and singing along throughout the Americans’ set – a real treat! After a dozen songs, the band thanked the audience for the evening and left the stage.
It’s 9:25 PM when the Japanese band takes the stage. It’s finally time for us to hear the band’s new songs, since they released their album *Weight of the Sound* last year. This is a chance to hear the new tracks, with John on vocals, on compositions written especially for him. True to form, Crystal Lake delivers a vibrant show with devastating energy, immediately transmitted to a ready crowd—who knows what this hardcore/metalcore band expects from its fans? The setlist is intense but very short, as the band only plays ten songs, leaving us wanting more… Nevertheless, we’re thrilled to experience *Neversleep*, *Everlack*, and *The Weight of Sound* live. This pleasure is shared by the enthusiastic crowd, including many crowdsurfers. We also have the joy of hearing classics from the band, such as *Apollo* and *Lost in Forever*. Crystal Lake clearly demonstrates that the members still have plenty of energy despite the numerous tours they’ve undertaken in recent years! We left very satisfied with the evening despite everything.
