Le groupe suisse Burning Witches revient avec un sixième album intitulé Inquisition, disponible à partir du 22 Août 2025 par le label Napalm Records.
Avec des chœurs en latin et une orchestration digne d’une incantation, Sanguini Hominum se place comme l’une des meilleures ouvertures d’album de cette année, ce qui permet à Soul Eater, la chanson suivante de prendre place et de perpétuer cette atmosphère bien sombre à coup de batterie frénétique et de refrains avec la même signature mélodique que la précédente chanson. Signature musicale bien marquée pour In For The Kill.
Est-ce que la honte va changer de camp ? C’est en tout cas l’effet que me fait Shame, avec une énorme énergie qui s’y en dégage. Le refrain se répète et je l’imagine aussi très bien dans le cadre d’une confrontation frontale.
Des sonorités plus Heavy pour The Spell Of The Skull, qui pourrait vite devenir un classique du groupe tant la composition rappelle les chansons culte du Heavy Metal moderne. Avec des riffs absolument incontournables, Inquisition fait son entrée pour essayer de se faire une place avec un petit côté Power, et toujours porté par la voix éraillée et puissante de Laura Guldemond. Cette fois-ci ce sera plus une inspiration Heavy / Rock, qui est pour rappel, leur première source d’inspiration pour High Priestess Of The Night. Un rythme simple et catchy qui saura attirer les fans les plus novices. C’est une excellente chanson pour introduire le groupe et leur univers aussi vaste et varié. Burn In Hell va d’ailleurs accentuer le côté Heavy avec en prime une touche de Death bien exécutée. Ce petit rappel vient aussi pour In The Eye Of The Storm avec une mélodie calme mais une bonne puissance vocale.
Release Me est le parfait d’exemple d’inspiration pure, voire limite un hommage aux ballade Heavy Metal des années 80, car à la première écoute j’ai tout de suite fait le rapprochement entre cette chanson et Nothing Else Matters de Metallica mais uniquement dans la mélodie de l’introduction. Une fois le couplet arrivé, le reste s’évapore et je me suis laisser bercée par le chant rempli d’émotion.
Mirror, Mirror vient tout casser avec une introduction plus que frénétique, mais cela semble se calmer au fur et à mesure, tout en gardant cette puissance et cette énergie si mythique. Puis Malus Maga vient fermer un récit d’histoires sombres et puissante avec un outro qui en donnerait de frissons.
De la technicité, de l’énergie mais surtout beaucoup d’émotions vont vous attendre sur ce nouvel album de Burning Witches. Elles continuent à exceller dans tout ce qu’elles font. Inquisition est un excellent album qui va marquer encore une fois les esprits, avec une atmosphère encore plus sombre que sur les précédents.

Swiss band Burning Witches are back with their sixth album, Inquisition, available from August 22, 2025, on the Napalm Records label.
With Latin choirs and orchestration worthy of an incantation, Sanguini Hominum stands out as one of the best album openers of the year, allowing Soul Eater, the following song, to take its place and perpetuate this dark atmosphere with frenetic drums and choruses featuring the same melodic signature as the previous song. A distinctive musical signature for In For The Kill.
Will the shame shift to the other side? That’s the effect Shame has on me, with its enormous energy. The chorus repeats itself, and I can easily imagine it being used in a face-to-face confrontation.
The Spell Of The Skull has a heavier sound and could quickly become one of the band’s classics, as the composition is reminiscent of cult modern heavy metal songs. With absolutely unmissable riffs, Inquisition makes its entrance, trying to carve out a place for itself with a touch of power metal, and still carried by Laura Guldemond’s raspy, powerful voice. This time, it’s more of a heavy metal/rock inspiration, which, as a reminder, was their primary source of inspiration for High Priestess Of The Night. A simple and catchy rhythm that will attract even the most novice fans. It’s an excellent song to introduce the band and their vast and varied universe. Burn In Hell further accentuates the heavy side with a bonus touch of well-executed death metal. This little reminder also comes in In The Eye Of The Storm with a calm melody but powerful vocals.
Release Me is the perfect example of pure inspiration, even bordering on a tribute to the heavy metal ballads of the 80s, because when I first heard it, I immediately made the connection between this song and Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters, but only in the melody of the introduction. Once the verse came in, the rest evaporated and I let myself be lulled by the emotionally charged vocals.
Mirror, Mirror breaks everything with a frenetic intro, but it seems to calm down as it goes along, while retaining its legendary power and energy. Then Malus Maga closes a dark and powerful story with an outro that will give you chills.
Technicality, energy, but above all a lot of emotion await you on this new album from Burning Witches. They continue to excel in everything they do. Inquisition is an excellent album that will once again leave a lasting impression, with an even darker atmosphere than its predecessors.
