[English version below] Allt était de passage en France en ce 20 mars ! Le groupe suédois est déjà habitué à venir poser ses valises chez nous, ils sont en effet déjà passés à Paris et à Lyon à l’occasion des tournées d’Animals As Leader ou encore Imminence l’année dernière dont ils avaient fait la première partie. Cette fois-ci marquait donc leur premier show en tant que groupe principal de la soirée, un évènement que nous ne pouvions pas manquer ! C’est aux côté des finlandais d’Atlas et du groupe parisien NDKH que le groupe de Metalcore Progressif suédois s’est produit au Backstage by the Mill. La soirée débutait à 19h dans un Backstage qui affichait complet ce soir ! La salle est petite mais offre une ambiance intimiste avec les groupes qui s’y produisent, nous avions donc hâte ! La formation de NDKH monte dès 19h15 sur scène et propose d’emblée des titres super puissants et énergiques, une bonne entrée en matière pour ce soir ! Le groupe de Djentcore commence son set dans une salle pas encore pleine mais qu’à cela ne tienne, le public arrive au fur et à mesure du show ! Quand les premières notes sonnent toute une partie du public faisait en effet la queue à l’extérieur.
Le chanteur du groupe parisien remercie le public d’être venu à l’heure et explique qu’il ne parlera pas beaucoup car le groupe préfère enchaîner ! Et en vrai, est-ce que c’est pas pour ça qu’on est venus finalement ? NDKH propose un set puissant, lourd, une prestation qui se révèle être une bonne entrée en matière dans un pit où des fans de la formation s’amusent et chantent les paroles des chansons. On assiste aux premiers mouvements dans la fosse pendant Viper ou encore Trauma et on rigole bien quand le vocaliste demande « Cassez vous la putain de gueule » avant de lancer Blindfold. Le passage du groupe français se termine par une ovation du public, la formation propose aux fans présents de venir discuter à leur stand de merchandising à la fin du show !
Atlas, originaire de Finlande prend place sur la petite scène du Backstage à 20h. Nous ne connaissions pas le groupe et avons donc découvert le tout sur place ! L’intro de la formation que l’on suppose être en finnois place l’ambiance à la contemplation. Les membres de la formation arrivent petit a petit, le batteur commence seul. Suivi par le bassiste et les deux guitaristes qui font signe à la foule. Enfin le chanteur arrive sous les hurlements du public. Le groupe qui se définit comme du Northcore -donc inspiré par le froid du nord – propose des titres avec une basse très présente et une ambiance évoquant les mythes nordiques. On peut retrouver en début ou en fin de morceau de la guitare sèche et plusieurs types de growl différent. Le vocaliste de la formation est accompagné de Leevi, l’un des guitaristes, au chant. Et le duo fonctionne très bien puisque les deux musiciens ont des voix différentes et qui se mêlent très bien !
Côté public le pit s’ouvre dès le deuxième titre du set des finlandais : Synti qui se veut très énergique et se prête à la bagarre. L’ambiance change avec Taivaaranta, un titre plus lent et atmosphérique qui s’avère être un morceau en plusieurs parties. Si le début se veut contemplatif, le morceau fini par exploser et c’est aussi le cas du public dans la fosse du Backstage. Le public se fera alors une joie de suivre toutes les demandes de la formation : il saute sur Anodyne et se révèle explosif sur le breakdown de Uni. Et surtout le public s’organisera l’un des plus gros wall of death que nous ayant vu au Backstage pendant Uhri pour clôturer le set ! Patrik, chanteur d’Atlas remercie le public avec son accent nordique « Thank you my brothers and sisters« .
Il est 21h quand Allt monte sur scène après une attente de 20 minutes. Le Backstage est plein à craquer à ce stade de la soirée ! Sous des lumières blanches aveuglantes la formation prend place avec son chanteur, qui, visiblement remis de sa maladie, sera finalement présent pour chanter ! (Il n’avait, en effet pas pu se produire lors des deux shows précédents) Et il est en forme ! La prestation vocale ne paraît pas plus fade que la dernière fois qu’on a pu voir Allt au Bataclan ! Le public est en furie dès le premier titre, bien chauffé après le passage d’Atlas. On entends les fans hurler les paroles avec Robin pendant Remnant.
Ce dernier prendra souvent la parole pour s’adresser au public. Après avoir lancé Aquila accueilli avec des hurlements dans la foule il enchaîne : » Hi it’s so good to be back, this in an old song ! Let’s split this fuckin’ room this one is called Rupture « . Le titre déclenche les premiers wall of death du set d’Allt qui est tout sourire sur scène ! Les crowdsurfers feront, quant à eux, leur apparition pendant le titre suivant : Memory of lights. Robin remercie le public « Thanks Paris, it was beautiful »
Les suédois poursuivent avec Echoes, plus calme et sur laquelle on profite du timbre particulier de son chanteur. Le titre permet une pause bien méritée au public puisque The Orphan Breed, qui est dédié aux gars du Pit sera le théâtre d’un circle pit géant réclamé par les suédois. Une demande bien sûre suivie par les fans. Robin remercie une fois de plus la foule : « You guys fuckin’ rules ! »
Emanate sera ensuite hurlé par le public et le vocaliste prendra la parole pour remercier les groupes des premières parties : Atlas et NDKH. Il annonce au passage qu’il reste seulement quelques chansons pour ce soir, Circles commence alors. Cela fait 35 minutes que le groupe est sur scène quand l’annonce de deux titres supplémentaires est donnée. Cela semble un peu court surtout dans une ambiance électrique comme celle-ci, l’une de celles où on ne voit pas le temps avancer! Le titre se fini par une ovation et il faut le dire la performance de Allt est incroyable ce soir. Le chanteur explique « You made my day« .
Blindsights sera le dernier titre du set , terriblement efficace et surtout physique dans la fosse ! L’énergie débordait autant sur scène que dans le public, le public sera remercié a plusieurs moments par la formation tout au long du show. C’est sous une ovation de la part de son public que la formation suédoise quitte la scène du Backstage by the Mill.
Et il ne leur faudra pas longtemps du tout pour revenir « just because you’re beautiful« .
Le groupe nous offrira deux sons supplémentaires sur son rappel de ce soir : D’abord Ephemeral et ses riffs de guitare iconiques puis la très connue Paralyzed, de quoi clore son set en beauté avec la présence des membres d’Atlas venus chanter et crowdsurfer sur la foule ! Les deux groupes s’éclatent comme jamais sur scène et on a l’impression d’assister à une réunion de potes ! Tous les membres restent longtemps sur scène pour saluer les fans présents avant de finalement la quitter. La partie de Allt sera constituée de seulement douze titre au total mais la performance était tellement à la hauteur qu’on ne peut pas en vouloir aux suédois et qu’on ne peux que les remercier ! On a hâte de les revoir par chez nous, dans une salle -peut-être- plus grande ?
[ENGLISH VERSION] Allt was in France on March 20th! The Swedish band is already a regular at our venue; they’ve already toured Paris and Lyon on tours for Animals As Leader and Imminence last year, opening for them. This time, it was their first show as the main band of the evening, an event we couldn’t miss! The Swedish Progressive Metalcore band performed at Backstage by the Mill alongside Finnish band Atlas and Parisian band NDKH. Thanks to Birgit of Oktober Promotion for inviting us to this colorful evening, as well as to Marine for the photographs!
The evening kicked off at 7 p.m. in a sold-out Backstage! The venue is small but offers an intimate atmosphere with the bands performing there, so we couldn’t wait! NDKH took the stage at 7:15 pm and immediately delivered some super-powerful and energetic tracks, a great start to the evening! The djentcore band began their set in a venue that wasn’t yet full, but no matter, the audience gradually arrived as the show progressed! When the first notes rang out, a large part of the crowd was actually queuing outside.
The singer of the Parisian band thanked the audience for coming on time and explained that he wouldn’t talk much because the band preferred to keep going! And really, isn’t that why we came after all? NDKH delivered a powerful, heavy set, a performance that proved to be a great start in a pit where fans of the band were having fun and singing along to the songs’ lyrics. We witnessed the first movements in the pit during Viper and Trauma, and we laughed a lot when the vocalist asked « Cassez vous la putain de gueule » before launching into Blindfold. The French band’s performance ended with a standing ovation from the audience, and the band invited fans to come chat at their merchandising booth after the show!
Atlas, originally from Finland, took the small Backstage stage at 8 p.m. We weren’t familiar with the band, so we discovered the tour on the spot! The band’s intro, which we assume is in Finnish, sets the mood for contemplation. The band members gradually arrive, with the drummer starting alone, followed by the bassist and the two guitarists, who signal to the crowd. Finally, the singer arrives to the roar of the audience.
The band, which defines itself as northcore—inspired by the cold of the north—offers tracks with a strong bass and an atmosphere reminiscent of Nordic myths. Acoustic guitar and several different types of growls can be heard at the beginning and end of the song. The band’s vocalist is accompanied by Leevi, one of the guitarists, on vocals. And the duo works very well, as the two musicians have different voices that blend very well together!
The audience’s pit opens with the second song of the Finnish band’s set: Synti, which is very energetic and ready for a fight. The atmosphere changes with Taivaaranta, a slower and more atmospheric track that turns out to be a multi-part piece. While the beginning is intended to be contemplative, the song ends up exploding, and this is also the case for the audience in the Backstage pit.
The audience is then happy to follow all the band’s requests: they jump into Anodyne and become explosive with the breakdown of Uni. And above all, the audience organizes one of the biggest wall of death we’ve seen at the Backstage during Uhri to close the set! Patrik, Atlas‘s singer, thanks the audience with his Nordic accent, « Thank you, my brothers and sisters. »
It’s 9 p.m. when Allt takes the stage after a 20-minute wait. The backstage is packed at this point in the evening! Under blinding white lights, the band takes its place with its singer, who, visibly recovered from his illness, will finally be there to sing! (He hadn’t been able to perform at the two previous shows.) And he’s in great shape! The vocal performance doesn’t sound any more bland than the last time we saw Allt at the Bataclan! The audience is furious from the first song, well warmed up after Atlas‘s performance. We hear the fans screaming the lyrics along with Robin during Remnant.
The latter often takes the floor to address the audience. After launching Aquila, which is greeted with screams from the crowd, he continues: « Hi, it’s so good to be back, this in an old song! Let’s split this fuckin’ room, this one is called Rupture. » The song triggers the first wall of death of Allt‘s set, who is all smiles on stage! The crowdsurfers, meanwhile, make their appearance during the next song: Memory of Lights. Robin thanks the audience « Thanks Paris, it was beautiful » The Swedes continue with Echoes, a calmer track where we enjoy the sunshine , particular number of its singer. The title allows a well-deserved break for the audience since The Orphan Breed, which is dedicated to the guys from the Pit, will be the scene of a giant circle pit requested by the Swedes. A request of course followed by the fans. Robin thanks the crowd once again: « You guys fuckin’ rules! »
Emanate will then be roared by the audience, and the vocalist will take the floor to thank the opening acts: Atlas and NDKH. He announces in passing that there are only a few songs left for tonight. Circles then begins. The band has been on stage for 35 minutes when the announcement of two more songs is made. This seems a bit short, especially in an electric atmosphere like this one, one of those where you can’t see the time passing! The song ends with a standing ovation, and it must be said, Allt‘s performance is incredible tonight. The singer explains, « You made my day. » Blindsights will be the last song of the set, terribly effective and especially physical in the pit! The energy was overflowing both on stage and in the audience, and the band will thank the audience at several points throughout the show. It is to a standing ovation from the audience that the Swedish band leaves the Backstage by the Mill stage.
And it won’t take them long at all to return « just because you’re beautiful. »
The band will offer us two additional songs during their encore tonight: first, Ephemeral and its iconic guitar riffs, then the very well-known Paralyzed, a fitting end to their set with a flourish, with the members of Atlas coming to sing and crowdsurf! Both bands are having the time of their lives on stage, and it feels like we’re at a reunion! All the members stay on stage for a long time, greeting the fans before finally leaving. Allt‘s set will consist of only twelve songs in total, but the performance was so impressive that we can’t blame the Swedes and can only thank them! We can’t wait to see them again in our country, in a – maybe – bigger venue?
