[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Quatre ans après You’re Welcome, A Day To Remember ont sorti leur nouvel album (en version physique uniquement) il y’a déjà quelques semaines et la version streaming de Big Ole Album Vol.1 sera disponible ce vendredi 21 mars 2025 via Fueled By Ramen.
Ce nouvel album s’ouvre avec un des deux derniers singles sortis pour l’annonce de l’album à savoir Make It Make Sense. Une voix off nous accueille « You want it, you fucking got it ! ». Les guitares saturées et la batterie archi lourde nous renvoie à notre version préférée de ADTR celle évidemment Heavy! Jeremy Mckinnon (vocaliste) rappelle encore une fois à quel point il est un des meilleurs chanteurs de sa génération en enchaînant les screams et les refrains en chant clair super entêtants. Mais évidemment la structure du morceau a tout les éléments d’un banger de ADTR à savoir le refrain archi mélodique, le breakdown enflammé et les screams, un morceau qui prendra vie en live et qu’on imagine très bien reprise par le public. La suite avec le single Feedback qui s’en prend directement aux haters et aux fans mécontents du groupe suite à leur changement musical, ça reste lourd avec une certaine inspiration Hard Rock sur les parties de guitares et ce break juste dingue avant le final sur lequel Jeremy va clairement dire « If I want your feedback, I’ll let you know mother fucker » (Si je veux ton avis, je te le ferais savoir , enfoiré) c’est clair, net et précis, A Day To Remember n’ont besoin de personne pour exister et faire de la musique! Bad Blood est donc le premier morceau inédit sur ce nouvel opus, les parties vocales sont ce qui ressort le plus sur ce nouveau titre mais les riffs ne sont pas en reste, mais également le Breakdown Calls « TAKE IT PERSONAL » pour un morceau qui évoque une amitié brisée et les retombées engendrées ou plus précisément les émotions ressenties à la fin de cette relation, la fureur de Alex Shelnutt derrière ses fûts peut également être associée à ce type d’émotions. Un morceau court, efficace et cathartique « I don’t start shit but I’ll finish it » prenez-en de la graine!
All My Friends est le contraire du morceau précédent c’est un hymne à l’amitié et les soirées entre amis sur un instrumental plus orienté Pop-Punk même si les riffs de guitares restent musclés (Merci Neil Westfall et Kevin Skaff pour ça), une chanson simple construite comme un hymne autour d’un refrain relativement simple également « it’s like awww shit here we go again, another night out here with All My Friends ». La lourdeur vous avez manquée sur le morceau précédent? To The Death va donc vous régaler « fight like it’s TO THE DEATH » (Jeremy tu nous régale). Qui a imaginé un Wall Of Death sur l’intro de ce morceau? Comment ça personne? On peut d’ailleurs considérer ce morceau comme un 2nd Sucks Bis tellement efficace, brutal et débile (oui un peu de débilité ne fait de mal à personne). Les couplets Heavy et le refrain mélodique se complètent à merveille avant un Break agressif à souhait introduit par Jeremy qui parle et se met à hurler un « FUCK YOU » à la fin avant de lancer les hostilités! Les pits ne sont ridiculeusement pas prêts pour ça! On arrive déjà à la moitié de l’album avec Flowers , un morceau Pop-Punk presque Emo qui va jouer sur les émotions en abordant les relations humaines. Le constat du groupe est simple : N’attendez pas qu’il soit trop tard pour offrir des fleurs aux gens que vous aimez (ou tout simplement pour leur dire que vous les aimez). Jeremy est un excellent songwriter et le prouve encore une fois ici « why is it so hard to pick up the phone to tell someone you love them and you thought that they should know .no hidden agenda , there ain’t nothing going wrong ,you just keep thinkin’ ’bout them and damn it’s been too long ». Les guitares lourdes et les screams vont quand même finir par repointer le bout de leurs museaux pour quelques secondes mais ce qui frappe ici et encore une fois comme sur ce genre de titre de A Day To Remember, ce sont les émotions dégagées par la voix de Mckinnon, du miel pour les oreilles et les cœurs.
Aaaah Lebron ce morceau a été considéré comme un incroyable banger à sa sortie et c’est toujours le cas. Le style de chanson que tu peux chanter bras dessus-bras dessous avec ton meilleur pote en concert mais aussi le titre qui fera mosher fort en plein milieu. Amateurs de crowd-surf et autres dingueries, vous pourrez vous en donner à coeur joie sur cette dinguerie « So, FUCK WHAT YOU THINK ». Connaissez-vous Oliver Sykes (je vous vois, bande de coquines)? Il a co-écrit le prochain titre Die For Me, un nouveau banger qui va accélérer le tempo, d’ailleurs il est facile d’imaginer le frontman de BMTH rejoindre Jeremy sur le deuxième couplet et le refrain mais c’est bien dommage l’idée n’a pas été exploitée même si le morceau reste incroyable (au pire un feat en live?). Miracle (le premier single dévoilé) est sorti depuis… Juillet 2022 (oui quand même)! Le morceau a été un peu retravaillé pour sa sortie sur l’album mais s’intègre parfaitement au reste de la tracklist et n’a pas pris une ride et reste un bonheur auditif! Same Team est introduite par la voix de velours de Mckinnon et par un peu de synthé, le côté Heavy revient pour le refrain mais ce qu’on retient de ce titre c’est le Break instrumental qui rappelle étrangement celui de Downfall Of Us All cette cassure instrumentale pourrait presque être associée au Breakdown présent un peu plus loin dans le morceau et les riffs sont de véritables accompagnements pour les Heabangs. Silence est déjà l’avant-dernier morceau de Big Ole Vol.1 et commence de façon plus lente et plus sombre avant de virer un peu…Gojira? C’est en tout cas l’impression donnée ici. Ce titre est probablement un des plus Metal Like de ADTR. Closer Than You Think va donc venir conclure ce premier volume de Big Ole avec une ambiance très Scène alternative 90’s voir début des années 2000. Une chanson Feel Good avec des paroles inspirantes encore une fois « So let’s go scream at the sky like no ones listening. I know it feels like the ending but somebody did the same thing to me » ou encore « I know your heart’s still hurting , you can take it out on me .there’s a light up ahead a little closer than you think » (Je sais que ton cœur souffre encore, tu peux t’en prendre à moi ,il y a une lumière devant toi, un peu plus proche que tu ne le penses). Quelque chose de presque frais et adolescent se dégage de cette dernière composition qui se conclue avec des riffs de guitares planants, des paroles emplies de la sagesse acquise avec les années mais également une voix qui semble plus sombre et mature.
Que dire de ce premier volume? A Day To Remember a frappé très très fort, cet album rentre automatiquement dans le Top 3 de leurs meilleurs albums de par sa diversité, ses nouvelles sonorités et sa maturité certaine! On a découvert ADTR il y’a presque 20 ans (dans quelques années) et ce groupe évolue parfaitement avec son public comme le prouve ce nouvel album.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Four years after You’re Welcome, A Day To Remember released their new album (physical version only) a few weeks ago, and the streaming version of Big Ole Album Vol.1 will be available this Friday, March 21, 2025 via Fueled By Ramen.
This new album opens with one of the last two singles released for the album announcement, namely Make It Make Sense. A voice-over greets us with “You want it, you fucking got it! » The saturated guitars and heavy drums take us back to our favorite version of ADTR, Heavy of course! Jeremy Mckinnon (vocalist) reminds us once again that he’s one of the best singers of his generation, with a succession of screams and catchy clear-voiced choruses. But of course, the structure of the track has all the elements of an ADTR banger, namely the archly melodic chorus, the fiery breakdown and the screams, a track that will come to life live and that we can well imagine being taken up by the audience. This is followed by the single Feedback, a direct attack on the band’s haters and disgruntled fans following their musical change. It’s still heavy, with a certain Hard Rock inspiration on the guitar parts and a break that’s just insane before the finale, on which Jeremy clearly says “If I want your feedback, I’ll let you know mother fucker”: it’s clear, clean and precise, A Day To Remember don’t need anyone to exist and make music! Bad Blood is the first unreleased track on this new opus, with the vocal parts standing out the most, not to mention the riffs, and the breakdown call “TAKE IT PERSONAL” for a song that evokes a broken friendship and the fallout or, more precisely, the emotions felt at the end of this relationship. Alex Shelnutt‘s fury behind the drums can also be associated with this type of emotion. A short, effective and cathartic track, “I don’t start shit but I’ll finish it” is a good example!
All My Friends is the opposite of the previous track, a hymn to friendship and evenings out with friends on a more Pop-Punk instrumental, even if the guitar riffs remain muscular (thanks to Neil Westfall and Kevin Skaff for that), a simple song built like an anthem around a relatively simple chorus too “it’s like awww shit here we go again, another night out here with All My Friends”. Missed the heaviness of the previous track? To The Death is going to treat you to a “fight like it’s TO THE DEATH” (Jeremy, you’re regaling us). Who came up with the idea of a Wall Of Death on the intro to this track? What do you mean, no one? In fact, this track could be considered a 2nd Sucks Bis, so effective, brutal and stupid (yes, a little stupidity never hurt anyone). The heavy verses and melodic chorus complement each other perfectly, before an aggressive break introduced by Jeremy, who speaks up and shouts “FUCK YOU” at the end before launching the hostilities! The pits are ridiculously unprepared for this! We’re already halfway through the album with Flowers , an almost Emo Pop-Punk track that plays on emotions by tackling human relationships. The band’s observation is simple: Don’t wait until it’s too late to give flowers to the people you love (or simply to tell them you love them). Jeremy is an excellent songwriter and proves it once again here “‘why is it so hard to pick up the phone to tell someone you love them and you thought that they should know .no hidden agenda , there ain’t nothing going wrong ,you just keep thinkin’ ’bout them and damn it’s been too long”. The heavy guitars and screams will eventually reappear for a few seconds, but what’s really striking here, as on so many A Day To Remember tracks, is the emotion released by Mckinnon‘s voice, honey for the ears and the heart.
Aaaah Lebron this track was considered an incredible banger when it came out and it still is. The kind of song you can sing arm-in-arm with your best mate in concert, but also the kind of track that will make you mosher loudly in the middle. Lovers of crowd-surfing and other dingueries will have a field day on this dinguery “So, FUCK WHAT YOU THINK”. Do you know Oliver Sykes (I see you, you naughty girls)? He co-wrote the next track, Die For Me, a new banger that’s going to pick up the tempo, and it’s easy to imagine the BMTH frontman joining Jeremy on the second verse and the chorus, but it’s a shame the idea wasn’t exploited, even if the track remains incredible (at worst a live feat?). Miracle (the first single unveiled) has been out since… July 2022 (yes, it has)! The track has been reworked a little for its release on the album, but fits in perfectly with the rest of the tracklist and hasn’t aged a bit, remaining an aural delight! Same Team is introduced by Mckinnon‘s velvety vocals and a bit of synth, the heavy side returns for the chorus, but what really stands out is the instrumental break, strangely reminiscent of Downfall Of Us All. This instrumental break could almost be associated with the Breakdown later in the track, and the riffs are real accompaniments for the Heabangs. Silence is already the penultimate track on Big Ole Vol.1, and starts off slower and darker before turning a little…Gojira? At least, that’s the impression given here. This track is probably one of ADTR‘s most Metal Like. Closer Than You Think brings Big Ole‘s first volume to a close with a 90’s or early 2000’s Alternative Scene feel. A Feel Good song with inspiring lyrics once again: “So let’s go scream at the sky like no ones listening. I know it feels like the ending but somebody did the same thing to me” or « I know your heart’s still hurting , you can take it out on me .there’s a light up ahead a little closer than you think ». There’s something almost fresh and adolescent about this last composition, which concludes with soaring guitar riffs, lyrics filled with the wisdom acquired over the years, and a voice that seems darker and more mature.
What can we say about this first volume? A Day To Remember has hit very, very hard, and this album automatically enters the Top 3 of their best albums, thanks to its diversity, its new sounds and its definite maturity! We discovered ADTR almost 20 years ago (in a few years’ time), and this band has evolved perfectly with its audience, as this new album proves.
