Temperance – Arcani [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH BELOW]

[ENGLISH VERSION]

The Italian symphonic power metal band Temperance is back with a new album titled Arcani, available on October 16, 2026, via Napalm Records.

On this album, each track is treated like a card from the Major Arcana in the Tarot and cartomancy. The card numbered 0 is therefore the opener, The Fool, which goes off in all directions yet remains structured—like a fool in need of structure. The opposite is true for The Magician: Into the Fire, which easily evokes a fire that burns brightly—fast and intense. For the Death card, Death: Right Before We Die features a more measured melody with better coordination between the elements; a slower chorus in its vocal delivery contrasts with the instruments, which maintain the tension. For The Tower: Lean Into Fear, power is the watchword, with unapologetic heavy metal influences evident even in the vocals, and it also showcases a superb bass line, whereas The Devil: Sin, Sin, Sin stands out as a conversation between good and bad conscience.

The title track, Temperance: Forgiveness, represents the harmony between two worlds; it sits right in the middle of the tracklist and encapsulates the album on its own. As a symbol of victory, willpower, and action, The Chariot: Alla Ricerca Dell’America surprises with a few verses in Italian. Fairness and truth are represented by Justice: Shame & Glory, a catchy song with an ultra-positive vibe; and speaking of positivity, The Star: Surrender Control breathes a breath of hope and optimism with its upbeat rhythm and powerful backing vocals. As for the Wheel of Fortune, it’s a more general representation of the cycle of life, and in Wheel of Fortune: Come and Call Me, this is felt most in the melody, which tends to go around in circles—the exact opposite of The Moon: The Man of Moonlight, where, despite the card’s meaning (the unconscious, intuition), the melody is self-assured and gets straight to the point. To truly let go, The Hanged Man: Petrichor serves as a necessary and powerful pause, offering an instant shift in perspective; and finally, The World, which represents absolute happiness, is portrayed through an acoustic song with simple, unadorned power.

Temperance offers us a well-rounded album with plenty of variations tied to the Major Arcana. It can be listened to as a continuous or discontinuous stream and truly stands out from their previous album with a more polished and thoughtful structure.
