Brymir – What We Leave Behind [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH BELOW]

[ENGLISH VERSION]

The Finnish melodic death metal band Brymir presents its new album, What We Leave Behind, available on October 2, 2026, via Napalm Records.

To enter the band’s musical universe, you’ll need patience and an open mind, as Slaying Star serves as an entirely instrumental introduction before launching into Sleipnir with its raw brutality. It’s filled with frenzied drumming, accompanied by guttural vocals, not to mention folk-inspired backing vocals. The pattern repeats with Tempestbound and its drive toward ever-greater melody. Speaking of melody, What We Leave Behind decides to cast aside the typical death metal sound in favor of a folk-infused approach, featuring a surprising yet not out-of-place electronic flourish.

Back to their roots with True Darkness, which embodies everything that melodic death metal is: powerful, captivating, and above all, soothing. Just like Moment Of Silence, which, with its instrumental section, reveals the full scope of their intentions before giving way to Buried Legion. The latter is a battle cry for the genre and for the fans. Another interlude in this narrative comes with Thy Self The Highest Love, this time featuring backing vocals throughout the melody—which also reappear in The Roaring King, as if to accompany the king—and, as is only logical, Broken Dawn is the journey itself, as indicated by the introduction featuring the sounds of a river, immersive and soothing like dawn. And to conclude this epic, How Much Is The Fish, which is completely different from the rest and almost feels like a bonus track, as its inspiration is rooted more in power metal than in folk.

Brymir offers us a rich and powerful album, filled with varied influences and rhythms, each more infectious than the last. A well-rounded album with beautiful harmony and structure that gives way to the musical narrative.
