Les Suisses de Vicious Rain sont de retour et nous propose un nouvel album : The Anatomy of Surviving. Cet opus sera disponible dès le 13 mars, via Arising Empire.
The Anatomy of Surviving débute avec une introduction assez étrange où le chant semble avoir été modifié, tout en étant assez captivant. Les instruments évoluent autour de cela et donnent l’impression de se mouvoir dans l’ombre avant de prendre toujours plus de place. L’ensemble se réveille et le chant agressif final nous le fait bien comprendre. Gods of Glass & Wire ouvre sur une instrumentalité très rapide et un chant qui suis la même volonté, les choses sérieuses comment véritablement. L’ensemble est lourd et violent, le chant donnant une certaine profondeur grâce à de beaux effets. Tout va s’arrêter brusquement pour laisser place à un chant clair, dans ce qui se rapproche d’un murmure accompagné de quelques sonorités. Le rythme reprend bien vite, différent et presque saccadé et l’ensemble devient finalement plus dynamique et entraînant. A Spotless Mind débute avec une instrumentalité qui s’axe sur le côté ambiant mais cela est de courte durée car un scream arrive et retourne tout sur son passage. L’énergie change forcément et nous dévoile quelque chose de plus brut, de plus agressif où oscille les deux chants, donnant une certaine profondeur. Le clair transperce toujours autant et crée un refrain marquant. La seconde partie est composée d’un solo de guitare qui apporte un côté aérien avant de passer à des passages beaucoup plus violents.

Silent Therapy à une ambiance assez différente où le chant nous captive directement. Il laisse rapidement place aux instruments qui tapent comme il faut et le chant revient, différent et presque douloureux. On se fait rapidement emporter et le groupe joue beaucoup sur les rythmes, notamment avec l’ajout de courtes pauses qui relance forcément le tout. Le refrain est un vrai point positif ici et devient une véritable force. La dernière minute est plus dense mais aussi intéressante avec des instruments qui cherchent à aller toujours plus loin. Trading Hearts donne une impression de rapidité mais aussi celle de vouloir sauter dans tous les sens. Le refrain arrive avec force et fait monter les choses, s’imposant totalement et vont se démarquer des passages très dynamiques et rapides. La dernière partie nous emporte totalement avec elle et nous offre de beaux grawl. C’est sur un riff de guitare que débute Spitting Blood Again et un chant qui vient vite reprendre sa position première. Ici, on nous livre ce qui s’avère être le titre le plus dense et le plus lourd de l’album, qui va certainement faire très mal en live. Le refrain est un vrai rayon de soleil et apporte une certaine douceur, notamment par l’ajout de chœurs. La palette vocale est également imposante et bien mise en avant ici.
Red Noise met en avant la batterie avant que tout ne s’accélère et nous conduise à un refrain en chant clair qui est assez posé et auquel vient s’ajouter plusieurs scream, un peu comme une réponse. Un effet qui change de ce que le groupe nous a proposé jusqu’à maintenant. Les instruments semblent également plus déstructurés mais sur de court passage qui dynamise le tout et donne un peu plus de profondeur. Ikigai est dans la même veine que le titre précédent. Il donne une bonne impulsion dès le début et est accompagné d’un long scream. On a des piques d’accélération et l’ensemble nous conduit à un refrain assez doux. Une nouvelle fois le groupe montre toute ses capacités et la violence qu’ils peuvent y ajouter. Intertwined vient clôturer notre écoute d’une manière assez douce. On a des moments de flottement où certains scream viennent se poser dessus, créant un contraste assez intéressant. Le chant clair est véritablement mis en valeur et le titre est tourné d’une manière différente et qui permet de terminer notre écoute comme il se doit.
Vicious Rain nous livre un album avec des passages différents et intéressants. On est rapidement prit au jeu, alternant entre moments violents et d’autres plus atmosphériques.

The Swiss band Vicious Rain are back with a new album: The Anatomy of Surviving. This album will be available from March 13th via Arising Empire.
The Anatomy of Surviving begins with a rather strange introduction where the vocals seem altered, yet remain quite captivating. The instruments evolve around this, giving the impression of moving in the shadows before gradually taking over. The whole thing awakens, and the aggressive final vocal makes this abundantly clear. Gods of Glass & Wire opens with very fast instrumentals and vocals that follow the same pattern; things are truly getting serious. The overall feel is heavy and violent, the vocals gaining a certain depth thanks to some beautiful effects. Everything stops abruptly, giving way to clean vocals, almost a whisper accompanied by a few sounds. The rhythm quickly resumes, different and almost jerky, and the whole thing ultimately becomes more dynamic and catchy. A Spotless Mind begins with instrumentals focused on ambient sounds, but this is short-lived as a scream arrives and turns everything upside down. The energy inevitably shifts, revealing something rawer and more aggressive, where the two vocals oscillate, creating a certain depth. The clean vocals still cut through the mix, resulting in a memorable chorus. The second part features a guitar solo that brings an ethereal quality before transitioning into much more intense passages.

Silent Therapy has a rather different atmosphere where the vocals immediately captivate us. They quickly give way to the instruments, which hit hard, and then the vocals return, different and almost painful. We’re quickly swept away, and the band plays a lot with rhythm, notably with the addition of short pauses that inevitably revitalize everything. The chorus is a real highlight here and becomes a true strength. The last minute is denser but also more interesting, with the instruments pushing the boundaries even further. Trading Hearts gives an impression of speed but also of wanting to jump around. The chorus arrives forcefully and builds momentum, completely dominating and standing out from the very dynamic and fast passages. The last part completely sweeps us away and offers some great growls. Spitting Blood Again begins with a guitar riff and vocals that quickly reclaim their initial position. Here, we’re given what proves to be the densest and heaviest track on the album, which will certainly be a powerful experience live. The chorus is a true ray of sunshine and brings a certain sweetness, particularly through the addition of backing vocals. The vocal range is also impressive and well showcased here.
Red Noise brings the drums to the forefront before everything speeds up, leading us to a clean-sung chorus that’s quite laid-back, punctuated by several screams, almost like a response. This effect is a departure from what the band has offered us so far. The instruments also seem more deconstructed, but only in short bursts that energize the whole thing and give it a bit more depth. Ikigai is in the same vein as the previous track. It provides a good boost right from the start and is accompanied by a long scream. There are bursts of acceleration, and the whole thing leads to a rather gentle chorus. Once again, the band demonstrates its full range of abilities and the intensity they can inject. Intertwined closes our listening experience in a rather mellow way. There are moments of stillness where screams are layered over, creating a rather interesting contrast. The clean vocals are truly highlighted, and the track is approached differently, allowing us to end our listening experience in a fitting manner.
Vicious Rain delivers an album with diverse and interesting passages. We are quickly drawn in, alternating between violent moments and more atmospheric ones.
