[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le huitième album de l’artiste Rob Zombie, The Great Satan , sortira ce vendredi 27 février via Nuclear Blast. Si vous suivez un peu son actualité, ce nouvel album est un peu décrit comme un retour à ses racines musicales ce qui s’explique notamment par le retour du guitariste originel Mike Riggs (qui remplace John 5 parti vers d’autres horizons) et du bassiste OG Blasko (ancien musicien de Ozzy Osbourne).
F.T.W 84 ouvre ce nouvel opus avec des samples de films qui nous plongent directement dans l’univers de l’artiste mais aussi réalisateur de films, c’est psychédélique/Industriel et déjanté en gros bien à son image. En soit rien à voir avec son dernier album en date (The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy sorti en 2021) mais cherchez plus du côté de Hellbilly Deluxe ou encore de White Zombie, ah les vieux Zombie et la nostalgie! Tarantula ça sonne un peu comme Dragula, non? En tout cas, ça sonne comme un banger Indus peuplé de créatures et de tueurs en série (pour les non connaisseurs, plongez dans la filmographie du Monsieur, vous ne serez pas déçus). C’est court et efficace tout comme (I’m a) Rock »N »Roller une ambiance horrifique mais plus agressive voire plus Metal que les précédents morceaux portée par cette voix reconnaissable entre mille! Tout comme Heathen Days les deux titres se complètent parfaitement et nous ramènent à une vieille époque où un certain Marilyn Manson état aussi très inspiré par la mouvance Indus (prenez Dope Hat par exemple).
Tout comme sur l’album Hellbilly Deluxe, The Great Satan est ponctué par des interludes comme Who I Am juste avant Black Rat Coffin qui est aussi un des morceaux les plus efficaces sur ce nouvel album! C’est Rock et Psyché tout comme Rob Zombie lui-même. Punks And Demons, le premier single dévoilé est très répétitif avec une rythmique presque martiale mais qui va devenir diablement addictif dès la première écoute. Revolutions Motherfuckers est court, entraînant et addictif encore une fois avec son refrain et sa rythmique de l’inarrêtable Ginger Fish (au moins un qui est resté). Un nouvel interlude avec Welcome To The Electric Age avant The Black Scorpion qui serait presque Punk dans son approche tandis que Unclean Animals est un peu l’Ovni de cet album avec son influence plus Stoner et son ambiance très planante. Le final se fait sur Grave Discontent, une outro très courte qui nous plongerait presque dans quelque chose de plus…sci-fi? Une nouvelle direction artistique ou un nouvel univers? Seul l’avenir nous le dira!
Amateurs de White Zombie et des premiers album de Rob, cet album sera pour vous! Pour les fans les plus récents, même si vous pourriez trouvez votre compte, The Great Satan joue sur la nostalgie et le retour de Mike Riggs. Comme quoi chassez le naturel, il revient avec Satan en prime!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Rob Zombie‘s eighth album, The Great Satan, will be released this Friday, February 27, via Nuclear Blast. If you’ve been following his news, this new album is described as a return to his musical roots, which is explained in particular by the return of original guitarist Mike Riggs (replacing John 5, who has moved on to other horizons) and bassist OG Blasko (former musician with Ozzy Osbourne).
F.T.W 84 opens this new opus with film samples that plunge us directly into the world of the artist, who is also a film director. It’s psychedelic/industrial and crazy, basically just like him. It’s nothing like his latest album (The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy, released in 2021), but more in line with Hellbilly Deluxe or White Zombie—ah, the old Zombie and nostalgia! Tarantula sounds a bit like Dragula, doesn’t it? In any case, it sounds like an industrial banger populated by creatures and serial killers (for those unfamiliar with his work, dive into the man’s filmography, you won’t be disappointed). It’s short and effective, just like (I’m a) Rock’N’Roller, with a horrific atmosphere but more aggressive, even more metal than the previous tracks, carried by that instantly recognizable voice! Just like Heathen Days, the two tracks complement each other perfectly and take us back to a bygone era when a certain Marilyn Manson was also very inspired by the industrial movement (take Dope Hat, for example).
Just like on the album Hellbilly Deluxe, The Great Satan is punctuated by interludes such as Who I Am just before Black Rat Coffin, which is also one of the most effective tracks on this new album! It’s rock and psychedelic, just like Rob Zombie himself. Punks And Demons, the first single released, is very repetitive with an almost martial rhythm, but it becomes devilishly addictive from the first listen. Revolutions Motherfuckers is short, catchy, and addictive once again with its chorus and rhythm section provided by the unstoppable Ginger Fish (at least one who stayed). There’s a new interlude with Welcome To The Electric Age before The Black Scorpion, which is almost punk in its approach, while Unclean Animals is a bit of an oddity on this album with its more stoner influence and trippy vibe. The finale is Grave Discontent, a very short outro that almost plunges us into something more… sci-fi? A new artistic direction or a new universe? Only time will tell!
Fans of White Zombie and Rob‘s early albums, this album is for you! For more recent fans, even if you might find something to enjoy here, The Great Satan plays on nostalgia and the return of Mike Riggs. It just goes to show that you can’t fight nature, it always comes back with Satan as a bonus!
