[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le huitième album de l’artiste/producteur Tim Skold, Caught In The Throes est sorti depuis le 10 octobre dernier via Metropolis Records. L’occasion de se replonger dans l’univers du musicien!
Ce nouvel album s’ouvre avec All The $ In The World, un morceau Indus/Rock littéralement ce que Skold sait faire de mieux notamment pour s’attaquer à des sujets qui touchy comme ici le capitalisme toujours abordé avec son air presque cynique avant Cold As Ice et sa mélancolie presque touchante, on peut y retrouver également des choeurs féminins qui accompagnent très bien la voix du musicien. Là où =’s (Private Libertine) mets vraiment l’accent sur l’instrumental notamment le synthé, sur House of a Thousand Lies c’est la voix de Tim Skold qui est plus mise en valeur et ses tonalités se veulent presque touchantes avant une légère explosion où on retrouve une voix plus axée sur les cris. The Great Theatricality rejoint Cold As Ice sur certains points avant l’étrange danse menée par All Humans Must Be Destroyed, un morceau nihiliste qui semble avoir été grandement influencé par Ministry (entre autres). Le morceau reste entraînant avec un côté « langoureux » et plutôt lent ce qui reste plutôt positif.
In A Grave (Specter) rappelle les années de Tim Skold chez Marilyn Manson, le morceau se veut plus introspectif et moins provocateur, c’est plus calme et ce titre permet de « respirer » un peu après les précédents, il est construit un peu comme une pause bienvenue. That Kind of Magic (Confessions of a Supermodel) et Do You Really? ont un côté Pop presque malsain et se complètent très bien avant The Inconsolable qui rejoint quand à lui un morceau comme In A Grave (Specter). Pop The Smoke et Digging My Own Grave sont des morceaux plus ancrés dans la mélancolie et concluent parfaitement ce nouvel album…qui fut bien long à écouter.
Ce nouvel album de Skold est un bon album, pas vraiment de surprise l’artiste évolue dans son univers familier qu’on aime retrouver et qui est très agréable à écouter mais ici tout paraît bien trop long, quatorze morceaux pour une durée de presque une heure…c’est passé bien trop lentement même si l’ensemble reste agréable à écouter!

[ENGLISH VERSION] The eighth album by artist/producer Tim Skold, Caught In The Throes, was released on October 10 via Metropolis Records. It’s a great opportunity to dive back into the musician’s world!
This new album opens with All The $ In The World, an industrial/rock track that showcases Skold‘s greatest strength: tackling sensitive subjects such as capitalism, which he approaches with his trademark cynicism. This is followed by Cold As Ice and its almost touching melancholy, featuring female backing vocals that complement the musician’s voice beautifully. Where =’s (Private Libertine) really emphasizes the instrumental, especially the synth, on House of a Thousand Lies it is Tim Skold‘s voice that is more prominent, with tones that are almost touching before a slight explosion where we find a voice more focused on screams. The Great Theatricality is similar to Cold As Ice in some ways before the strange dance led by All Humans Must Be Destroyed, a nihilistic track that seems to have been greatly influenced by Ministry (among others). The track remains catchy with a “languid” and rather slow side, which is quite positive.
In A Grave (Specter) is reminiscent of Tim Skold‘s years with Marilyn Manson. The track is more introspective and less provocative, calmer, allowing the listener to “breathe” a little after the previous tracks. It is constructed a bit like a welcome break. <That Kind of Magic (Confessions of a Supermodel) and Do You Really? have an almost unhealthy pop feel and complement each other very well before The Inconsolable, which is similar to a track like In A Grave (Specter). Pop The Smoke and Digging My Own Grave are tracks more rooted in melancholy and perfectly conclude this new album…which took a long time to listen to.
This new album by Skold is a good album, no real surprises here as the artist evolves in his familiar universe that we love to revisit and which is very pleasant to listen to, but here everything seems far too long, fourteen tracks lasting almost an hour… it went by far too slowly, even if the whole thing remains pleasant to listen to!
