Les anglais de Caskets nous dévoile un nouvel album, intitulé The Only Heaven You’ll Know. Le chanteur, Matt Flood, déclare que « Cet album est le reflet de mon effondrement en temps réel. Chaque chanson est une confession. Elle parle de l’amour qui vous ronge de l’intérieur, du fait de prétendre que tout va bien alors que vous êtes en train de vous noyer, de la recherche de la paix dans un monde qui vous rend insensible.» Il sera disponible dès le 7 novembre, via Sharptone Records.
Lost In The Violence démarre fort avec une instrumentalité dynamique et de l’énergie à revendre, qui nous entraîne immédiatement dans ce nouvel album. Les choses se calment un peu avec l’arrivée du chant mais cela ne dure qu’un court instant, reprenant vite cette ambiance endiablée. L’ensemble est globalement doux et va souvent jouer avec la profondeur et le côté plus aérien. On nous surprend avec quelques passages plus énervés qui donnent un rythme plus dense à l’ensemble. C’est la seconde partie qui vient changer les choses, passant à quelque chose de plus grave où l’ensemble est accentué et le rythme se calme quelque peu. Une très bonne façon de débuter notre écoute, qui nous donne envie d’en écouter davantage. Our Remedy nous propose le seul featuring de cet opus et c’est Make Them Suffer qui a cet honneur. Une introduction d’une trentaine de secondes où douceur et flottement se mêlent suffisent avant de lancer une instrumentalité plus agressive. Sur ce titre, on vient jouer sur le rythme mais aussi sur la hauteur et la durée. On nous surprend avec un scream, assez long et appuyé par les instruments et le changement se fait, allant vers quelque chose de plus violent, de plus saturé. On découvre un gros contraste avec le chant qui devient plus doux et intime à la fois. Une voix féminine vient ponctuer les choses et apporte une tendresse nouvelle à l’ensemble. La dernière partie reprend l’ambiance de l’introduction et s’éteint progressivement, ne laissant plus que quelques notes derrière lui. Arrive le tour du titre éponyme : The Only Heaven You’ll Know. Il débute avec une instrumentalité alliant douceur et dynamisme en même temps. Ces sonorités vont disparaître avec l’arrivée du chant qui accapare toute l’attention. Quelques notes font finalement leur apparition et on sent que l’ensemble monte, jusqu’à ce que le chant explose. Il cherche toujours plus haut, toujours plus profond. On découvre une belle alternance d’ambiances ici et on se prend facilement au jeu à l’arrivée du solo à la guitare.

Closure débute avec une instrumentalité grandiose. Il y a un véritable jeu qui est mis en place avec les différents rythmes et un côté très aérien où s’ajoute une instrumentalité toujours plus forte. C’est un titre globalement simple que nous propose le groupe mais on y accroche facilement, dû au dynamisme sans fin dont font preuve les membres. Sacrifice à une introduction douce et assez intrigante où le chant est murmuré. L’ensemble évolue petit à petit avec l’ajout de différents sons au fil des secondes. Le chant vient prendre plus de place alors que les instruments restent toujours discrets. Il faut attendre l’apparition d’un solo pour que les choses bougent un peu et continuent sur des sonorités assez étranges et distordues. L’instrumentalité sur What Have I Become est aérienne et regorge d’énergie. Tout s’arrête pourtant avec l’arrivée du chant mais cela reste de courte durée. Une mélodie récurrente se fraye un passage tout au long de notre écoute, apportant un peu de lumière à l’ensemble et entrant en opposition totale avec les différents scream. Un titre qui joue sur les atmosphères et sur les contrastes avec brio.
Make Me A Martyr ouvre sur le chant, pendant que les instruments nous prépare à une belle accélération. On est embarqué dans cette spirale et vers un refrain qui vient jouer avec nos sentiments et une profondeur qui touche plusieurs niveaux. Le refrain est vraiment l’élément clé ici, il reste en tête et nous donne un sentiment d’espoir assez fort. On découvre des murmures, une nouvelle fois et qui s’intègrent parfaitement, surtout qu’ils permettent de partir du plus bas pour s’élever et apporter un peu plus de violence. Save Us se démarque avec une introduction composée de touches électro. Cela dure peu de temps avant d’enchaîner sur une ambiance plus entraînante et un chant assez doux. Une nouvelle fois, le groupe vient titiller nos sentiments et c’est une vraie histoire qui nous traverse durant notre écoute. Alors que le chant montre toute sa puissance, on découvre des passages instrumentaux qui mettent à l’honneur les autres membres. L’introduction d’Escape donne envie de sauter dans tous les sens, notamment grâce à l’ajout d’une mélodie plus claire, plus lumineuse. Tout s’arrête et l’ambiance change radicalement à l’arrivée du chant, plus doux et surtout beaucoup plus calme. Les deux ambiances finissent par s’entremêler et donne un ensemble fort et captivant.

In Vein crée une ambiance différente, plus sombre et presque angoissante. C’est l’arrivée du chant qui illumine un peu les choses et le refrain qui éclate. L’instrumentalité joue sur un côté djent assez intéressant et très bien exploité pendant que le chant nous propose des scream de qualité. Le solo vient apporter de la lumière et semble tout éclairer sur son passage, dans ce titre à l’ambiance globalement assez sombre. Broken Path part sur une accélération dès le début. Cette rapidité vient contrer le chant qui est plus lent, avant que les deux ne s’entremêlent et proposent une atmosphère beaucoup plus dynamique. Le chant maintient l’apport d’un côté aérien et fait contraste avec les instruments plus denses. C’est le milieu du morceau qui va retenir notre attention avec un vrai cri du cœur, amplifié par l’arrivée de scream et choses plus lourdes au niveau des instruments. Le titre s’éteint progressivement et c’est ainsi que se termine notre écoute.
Caskets nous propose un nouvel album jouant sur les sentiments. Chaque titre apporte son lot d’épreuves et d’émotions, mêlant douceur mais aussi instrumentalité endiablée et scream.

The English band Caskets has unveiled a new album, titled The Only Heaven You’ll Know. Singer Matt Flood states, “This album is a reflection of my real-time breakdown. Every song is a confession. It speaks of love eating you up inside, of pretending everything is fine when you’re drowning, of searching for peace in a world that numbs you.” It will be available from November 7th via Sharptone Records.
Lost In The Violence starts strong with dynamic instrumentals and boundless energy, immediately drawing us into this new album. Things calm down a bit with the arrival of the vocals, but only briefly, quickly returning to the frenetic atmosphere. The overall feel is generally mellow, often playing with depth and a more ethereal quality. We’re surprised by a few more aggressive passages that give the whole thing a denser rhythm. It’s the second half that changes things, shifting to something more serious where the overall sound is accentuated and the tempo slows somewhat. A very good way to begin listening, leaving us wanting more. Our Remedy provides the only featured artist on this album, and it’s Make Them Suffer who has the honor. A thirty-second introduction where gentleness and fluidity blend perfectly precedes the more aggressive instrumental section. On this track, the focus is on rhythm, pitch, and duration. We’re surprised by a scream, quite long and supported by the instruments, and then the change occurs, moving towards something more violent, more saturated. A stark contrast emerges with the vocals, which become softer and more intimate. A female voice punctuates the passages, bringing a new tenderness to the whole. The final section returns to the atmosphere of the introduction and gradually fades away, leaving only a few notes behind. Then comes the eponymous track: The Only Heaven You’ll Know. It begins with an instrumental section that combines gentleness and dynamism. These sounds disappear with the arrival of the vocals, which command all attention. A few notes finally appear, and we feel the music building until the vocals explode. They reach ever higher, ever deeper. We discover a beautiful alternation of moods here, and we’re easily drawn in by the guitar solo.

Closure begins with a grandiose instrumental performance. There’s a real interplay of different rhythms and an ethereal quality, further enhanced by increasingly powerful instrumentation. It’s a generally simple track from the band, but it’s easy to get hooked thanks to the members’ boundless energy. Sacrifice opens with a gentle and rather intriguing introduction featuring whispered vocals. The whole thing gradually evolves with the addition of different sounds as the seconds tick by. The vocals take center stage while the instruments remain discreet. It’s only with the arrival of a solo that things pick up a bit, continuing with some rather strange and distorted sounds. The instrumentals on What Have I Become are ethereal and brimming with energy. Everything comes to a halt with the arrival of the vocals, but this is short-lived. A recurring melody weaves its way through the track, bringing a touch of light to the whole and contrasting sharply with the various screams. A title that brilliantly plays on atmospheres and contrasts.
Make Me A Martyr opens with the vocals, while the instruments prepare us for a powerful acceleration. We’re swept up in this spiral and towards a chorus that plays with our emotions and a depth that resonates on multiple levels. The chorus is truly the key element here; it sticks in your head and gives you a strong sense of hope. We discover whispers, once again, which integrate perfectly, especially as they allow us to start from the lowest point and rise, adding a touch of intensity. Save Us stands out with an introduction composed of electronic touches. This lasts only a short time before transitioning into a more catchy atmosphere and a rather gentle vocal. Once again, the band stirs our emotions, and a real story unfolds as we listen. While the vocals showcase their full power, we discover instrumental passages that highlight the other members. The introduction of Escape makes you want to jump around, especially thanks to the addition of a clearer, brighter melody. Everything stops and the atmosphere changes radically with the arrival of the singing, softer and above all much calmer. The two atmospheres eventually intertwine, creating a powerful and captivating whole.

In Vein creates a different, darker, and almost unsettling atmosphere. The arrival of the vocals brightens things up a bit, and the chorus explodes. The instrumentation plays on a rather interesting and well-executed djent side, while the vocals offer high-quality screams. The solo brings light and seems to illuminate everything in its path in this track, which has an overall rather dark atmosphere. Broken Path starts with an acceleration right from the beginning. This speed counters the slower vocals before the two intertwine, creating a much more dynamic atmosphere. The vocals maintain an ethereal quality and contrast with the denser instruments. It’s the middle of the track that grabs our attention with a real cry from the heart, amplified by the arrival of screams and heavier instrumentation. The track gradually fades out, and that’s how our listening experience ends.
Caskets presents us with a new album that plays on feelings. Each track brings its own set of trials and emotions, blending gentleness with frenetic instrumentals and screams.
