Déjà deux ans que les américains d’Of Mice of Men nous ont laissé avec Tether. Ce nouvel opus promet de belles choses “car nous avons non seulement relevé la barre sur le plan mélodique, mais nous avons également doublé la puissance de l’album et créé ce que nous considérons comme une représentation incroyablement forte et authentique de ce qu’est Of Mice & Men en 2025.” Another Miracle sera disponible dès le 14 novembre, via Century Media Records.
A Waltz débute avec une introduction assez atmosphérique où les sonorités semblent flotter. Des chœurs s’ajoutent et donnent directement un côté plus grandiose à l’ensemble. Ce dernier continue de s’élever et l’arrivée des instruments s’y colle parfaitement. Un début d’album intense et prenant. L’agressivité vient de la part du chant, qui semble malgré tout sur sa retenu et vient s’entremêler à des chiffres murmurés. Cet ajout vocal donne un sentiment étrange, comme si on perdait un peu la raison et crée quelque chose d’original. Troubled Water crée une toute autre ambiance. Le morceau est plus dynamique et va véritablement éclater avec le chant et son “blegh” emblématique du genre. L’instrumentalité est rentre dedans, ralentissement qu’aux interventions brèves du chant. Le groupe nous surprend avec l’apparition du chant clair, qui vient apporter un peu de tendresse et va venir jouer sur le côté aérien. Les deux chants alternent et créent un beau contraste. Les instruments semblent toujours plus denses et lourds, comme si rien n’allait les arrêter. Un schéma auquel on accroche rapidement et qui donne un titre énergique, au refrain qui entre facilement en tête. Safe and Sound propose une instrumentalité assez rapide où vient se mêler un côté djent, ainsi qu’une batterie qui se démarque. Tout se met en place, prenant son temps, tout en nous entraînant avec lui. Il faut attendre une bonne minute pour que le chant apparaisse et apporte un peu de douceur et calmant les choses. Il prend son temps, avec un côté plus planant avant de laisser place aux instruments, une nouvelle fois. Un titre qui vient titiller nos sentiments et qui se démarque par son refrain fort et poussé.

L’introduction de Hourglass nous propose un imposant scream qui va donner le ton pour le reste de l’écoute. L’agressivité vient du chant alors que les instruments restent assez discrets, tout en apportant une certaine rapidité. Un morceau qui se démarque, qui change et qui nous montre un peu autre chose. On ne nous laisse pas sur notre faim pour autant et le groupe propose des passages instrumentaux assez lourds et violents. Wake Up ouvre avec une guitare qui vient donner un bon dynamisme avant d’être rejoint par les autres instruments. L’ensemble est entraînant et relativement doux, surtout après le titre précédent. Le chant arrive à son tour, doux, percutant et avec le sentiment de couler sur l’instrumentalité. C’est le refrain qui fait bouger les choses, partant dans quelque chose plus aérien mais aussi plus poussé. Le chant clair nous propose une belle prouesse vocale, on est touché en plein cœur. L’introduction de Flowers nous surprend avec l’apparition de notes électro, ce qui change et marque. Après un court moment assez doux, l’instrumentalité arrive avec lourdeur et crée un beau contraste. Le chant arrive dans un murmure et pose quelques mots, se mélangeant finalement aux instruments et nous conduisant à un refrain qui s’affirme un peu plus. C’est vers la moitié que l’ambiance change, l’arrivée de scream casse cette bulle de douceur et les instruments se lâchent véritablement. Un morceau assez fort et surtout marquant.
Another Miracle débute avec une instrumentalité forte et surtout rapide, on est véritablement pris dans cette tempête et le chant n’est pas là pour faire ralentir les choses. Il va même apporter un peu plus de lourdeur, appuyé aux moments clés par les instruments. C’est un passage plus doux qui va annoncer l’arrivée du chant clair, qui semble éclater et apporter de la lumière. Ce refrain va rester en tête et on note les scream qui viennent renforcer les choses. C’est un vrai jeu de hauteur et de profondeur que nous propose le groupe avec ce morceau. Contact est assez calme, avec un chant murmuré. On sent les choses évoluer autour de nous et l’ensemble crée une belle dynamique, notamment avec un riff qui cherche à aller toujours plus loin. Il est surtout très efficace et reste en tête. Le chant semble flotter au-dessus de tout ça, tout en tempérant parfois les choses. Le refrain est puissant, assez franc mais aussi émouvant et joue parfaitement son rôle. L’introduction de Parable monte et évolue, donnant le sentiment que les instruments se libèrent et donnent tout. Le chant apporte quelque douceur alors que l’instrumentalité conserve son côté plus agressif, créant une opposition intéressante et surtout efficace. Le chant semble vouloir chercher toujours plus loin et aller le plus haut possible, c’est un vrai cri du cœur qui fait vriller nos sentiments.

Somewhere in Between propose une instrumentalité plus lourde, plus grave et le chant vient reproduire cela, semblant même tirer les choses vers le bas. Quelques passages plus calmes nous permettent de respirer et le chant clair vient apporter un peu de lumière sur l’ensemble. Il crée aussi une belle profondeur et met en valeur le refrain. La fin est parsemée de quelques “blegh” bien placés qui font le lien avec la violence du début. Swallow met en avant les instruments et ces derniers nous proposent quelque chose d’assez lourd. Le chant clair est mis en avant et ses passages sont ponctués de quelques scream, marquant un peu plus la violence. Les instruments sont vraiment mis en valeur ici, ayant de nombreux passages dédiés et nous conduisant à une fin explosive, mélangeant émotions et brutalité. Infinite vient clôturer ce nouvel opus et pour la peine, on prend notre temps. Le chant clair arrive en douceur, par petites touches avant d’être rejoint par les instruments qui ajoutent un peu plus de dynamisme. Le chant semble planer sur l’ensemble, laissant les quelques growl et scream casser les choses sur une courte durée. C’est durant la seconde partie que les choses s’affolent et nous marque avec un passage plus intense, plus grand et plus violent, mettant un point final à cette écoute.
Of Mice Of Men revient avec un album puissant mais aussi émouvant. Ils jonglent entre différents chants, différents rythmes et ambiances, nous embarquant avec eux dans ce nouvel opus.

It’s been two years since the American band Of Mice & Men last released Tether. This new album promises great things, « because we’ve not only raised the bar melodically, but we’ve also doubled the album’s power and created what we consider to be an incredibly strong and authentic representation of what Of Mice & Men is in 2025. » Another Miracle will be available from November 14th, via Century Media Records.
A Waltz begins with a rather atmospheric introduction where the sounds seem to float. Choirs are added, immediately lending a more grandiose feel to the whole. The music continues to build, and the arrival of the instruments fits perfectly. An intense and captivating start to the album. The aggression comes from the vocals, which nevertheless seem restrained and intertwine with whispered numbers. This vocal addition creates a strange feeling, as if one is losing one’s mind, and creates something original. Troubled Water creates a completely different atmosphere. The track is more dynamic and truly explodes with the vocals and their emblematic « blegh » of the genre. The instrumentation is aggressive, slowing down only for brief vocal interventions. The band surprises us with the appearance of clean vocals, which bring a touch of tenderness and play on the ethereal quality. The two vocal styles alternate and create a beautiful contrast. The instruments seem ever denser and heavier, as if nothing will stop them. A catchy formula that quickly draws you in, resulting in an energetic track with an instantly memorable chorus. Safe and Sound features a fast-paced instrumental style blending djent elements with a prominent drumbeat. Everything unfolds gradually, taking its time to build, while still drawing you in. You have to wait a good minute for the vocals to enter, bringing a touch of sweetness and calming the atmosphere. They take their time, with a more ethereal feel, before giving way to the instruments once again. This track stirs our emotions and stands out thanks to its powerful and compelling chorus.

The intro to Hourglass features a powerful scream that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The aggression comes from the vocals, while the instruments remain fairly understated, yet still contribute a certain speed. It’s a track that stands out, that’s different, and that shows us something new. We’re not left wanting, however, as the band delivers some pretty heavy and intense instrumental passages. Wake Up opens with a guitar that provides a good dynamic before being joined by the other instruments. The overall effect is catchy and relatively mellow, especially after the previous track. The vocals then arrive, soft, impactful, and seeming to flow seamlessly over the instrumentals. It’s the chorus that really gets things moving, shifting into something more ethereal yet also more intense. The clean vocals are a beautiful vocal performance; they truly resonate. The intro to Flowers surprises us with the appearance of electronic notes, a change that makes a strong impression. After a brief, gentle interlude, the instrumentals arrive with a heavy weight, creating a striking contrast. The vocals arrive in a whisper, laying down a few words that eventually blend with the instruments, leading to a chorus that grows a little more assertive. Around the halfway point, the atmosphere shifts; the arrival of screams shatters this bubble of gentleness, and the instruments truly unleash their power. A rather powerful and, above all, memorable track.
Another Miracle begins with a powerful and, above all, fast instrumental section; we’re truly swept up in this storm, and the vocals don’t slow things down. Somewhere in Between features heavier, more somber instrumentals, and the vocals echo this, even seeming to pull things down a bit. A few calmer passages allow us to breathe, and the clean vocals bring a touch of light to the whole. They also create a beautiful depth and highlight the chorus. The ending is punctuated by well-placed bleghs that connect with the violence of the beginning. Swallow showcases the instruments, which deliver something quite heavy. The clean vocals are prominent, punctuated by a few screams, further emphasizing the violence. The instruments are truly showcased here, with numerous dedicated sections leading to an explosive ending that blends emotion and brutality. Infinite closes this new album, and for good measure, it takes its time. The clean vocals arrive gently, in small touches, before being joined by the instruments, which add a bit more dynamism. The vocals seem to float above the whole, allowing the occasional growl and scream to break things up briefly. It is during the second part that things get crazy and we are struck by a more intense, bigger and more violent passage, putting an end to this listening experience.
