Le groupe allemand de Pagan médiévale, Faun est de retour avec un nouvel album intitulé Hex, disponible à partir du 5 septembre 2025 par le label Pagan Folk Records.
Ce nouvel album est une révérence aux sorcières, soigneuses et aux femmes sages, très loin du cliché et des légendes qui les entourent.
Pour une immersion totale je préconise de commencer avec Belladonna, qui va très vite envoûter et captiver les esprits. Le morceau est aussi très entêtant et s’enchaine plutôt bien avec Lament. Ce dernier va par ailleurs être sur une ambiance plutôt sombre comme un triste adieu, et cela va s’accentuer aussi avec Lady Isolbel ou encore HareSpell. Tout le contraire de Nimue qui est en feat avec Chelsea Wolfe ou même Umay qui vont avoir cette lueur de lumière qui vient égayer une journée avec un bon bol d’énergie bien vivifiante.
Blot vient renverser l’ambiance avec une introduction en duo de guitare et flûtes, qui nous transporte loin de ce que l’on écoute habituellement, le tout est harmoniser à la perfection avec un interlude à la vielle à roue hypnotisant. Avec Zauberin, j’ai déjà l’envie de monter sur un cheval et partir me promener en plein cœur de la forêt. Dans le même esprit nous avons aussi Black Eyed Dog qui se rapproche le plus de l’aspect Metal.
Une envie de vous assoir au pré du feu à vous raconter histoire et légendes et bien Vals est parfaite pour ça, notamment avec son aspect entièrement instrumentale que j’ai trouvé beaucoup trop court. Mais Ylfa Spere vient accélérer le mouvement et récupérer un peu de cette bonne humeur qui n’était pas présente pour tout le monde.
Faun nous présente un album très bien orchestré avec de beaux échange au niveaux des chansons ainsi qu’une belle harmonisation des mélodies et des émotions que ce dernier dégage. Cependant un peu comme pour Skald c’est très vite lassant (pour mon humble avis) par son aspect très Pagan et Neofolk et bien loin du Folk Metal dans lequel ils sont pourtant catégoriser. Ce qui rends donc l’écoute longue et fastidieuse pour moi. Mais TOUT est absolument magnifique et même si c’est très loin de ce que j’écoute habituellement, je suis assez contente d’avoir pu jeter une oreille sur ce qu’ils font.

German medieval pagan band Faun is back with a new album entitled Hex, available from September 5, 2025, on the Pagan Folk Records label.
This new album pays homage to witches, healers, and wise women, far removed from the clichés and legends that surround them.
For total immersion, I recommend starting with Belladonna, which will quickly enchant and captivate the listener. The track is also very haunting and flows nicely into Lament. The latter has a rather dark atmosphere, like a sad farewell, which is accentuated by Lady Isolbel and HareSpell. This is in stark contrast to Nimue who’s features with Chelsea Wolfe and even Umay, which have a glimmer of light that brightens up the day with a good dose of invigorating energy.
Blot overturns the mood with a duet introduction of guitar and flutes, transporting us far from what we usually listen to, all harmonized to perfection with a hypnotic hurdy-gurdy interlude. With Zauberin, I already feel like getting on a horse and riding off into the heart of the forest. In the same vein, we also have Black Eyed Dog, which comes closest to the metal aspect.
If you feel like sitting by the fire telling stories and legends, Vals is perfect for that, especially with its entirely instrumental aspect, which I found far too short. But Ylfa Spere picks up the pace and recovers some of the good mood that wasn’t there for everyone.
Faun presents us with a very well-orchestrated album with beautiful exchanges between songs and a beautiful harmonization of melodies and emotions. However, a bit like Skald, it quickly becomes tiresome (in my humble opinion) due to its very Pagan and Neofolk aspect, which is far removed from the Folk Metal genre in which they are categorized. This makes listening to it long and tedious for me. But EVERYTHING is absolutely magnificent, and even though it’s very far from what I usually listen to, I’m quite happy to have been able to hear what they do.
