Lord of the Lost nous gâte en nous informant qu’une trilogie, d’albums, est à venir et le premier d’entre eux sera disponible dès le 8 août, via Napalm Records. Opvs Noir Vol. 1 a été produit, enregistré, mixé et masterisé par Chris Harms au Chameleon Studios à Hambourg.
Bazaar Bizarre débute avec une introduction forte où sont mélangés plusieurs chœurs, donnant directement un côté grandiose et captivant. Des notes électro viennent prendre la relève et changent d’ambiance, annonçant le chant qui arrive par petites touches. Le titre est véritablement lancé et le chant captive tout du long. Un premier morceau qui nous met directement dans le bain et nous promet un bel album. Le chant ouvre, accompagné d’un orgue sur My Sanctuary, les deux donnent un aspect plus solennel mais aussi très prenant. L’instrumentalité vient s’ajouter et rythme un peu plus les choses, même si le chant reste un peu trop linéaire à mon goût. L’ensemble prend de plus en plus d’ampleur et nous propose de beaux passages instrumentaux, combinés à différents chœurs sur un passage assez court, qui vient donner du peps à l’ensemble. Le titre reste assez sombre et linéaire, jusqu’à la dernière minute où les instruments sont bien mis en avant mais un peu trop courts à mon goût. Light Can Only Shine In The Darkness signe notre premier featuring de l’album et c’est avec Shanon Den Adel de Within Temptation. C’est d’ailleurs elle qui ouvre le morceau, posant le ton avec douceur et puissance. Les instruments suivent et créent une ambiance plus aérienne que Chris vient calmer avec son chant. Les deux voix se combinent et se mélangent parfaitement, notamment lors du refrain qui est très prenant. Shanon est très présente ici et il faut attendre la fin du titre pour que Chris se lâche un peu plus, créant une belle dualité.

I Will Die In It ouvre sur une belle instrumentalité, qui porte le titre, qui le grandit. Le chant calme les choses à nouveau, il les pose et on prend notre temps. Il va finalement s’énerver un peu plus et accélérer un peu les choses pour prendre son envol et proposer quelque chose d’aérien. Cet aspect va être amplifié par l’instrumentalité, qui fait monter les choses au fur et à mesure. J’aime beaucoup l’ajout de chœurs qui donnent un petit truc en plus au titre. Moonstruck ouvre sur un piano captivant mais de courte durée car les instruments prennent la relève. L’ambiance est grande, puissante et renforcée par des chœurs. Ce morceau nous propose un nouveau featuring et c’est avec Stimmgewalt, que je ne connais pas du tout. Le chant fait changer l’ambiance, passant à quelque chose de plus calme, qui prend son temps mais qui conserve les chœurs. Le solo à la guitare est incroyable et approfondi parfaitement cette idée. J’apprécie beaucoup le côté théâtral qui ressort ici ! Arrive le feat que j’attendais le plus, celui avec Whiplasher Bernadotte (Deathstars) sur Damage. La voix de Chris ouvre le morceau et pose le temps, l’ensemble est assez carré jusqu’à nous surprendre avec un scream, changeant un peu la donne. Même l’instrumentalité semble différente ici et nous propose une belle énergie. J’aime beaucoup le schéma qui se dévoile ici, avec des passages calmes de la part de Chris et des passages plus énervés et industriels avec celle de Whiplasher. Un featuring vraiment intéressant et qui donne un bon dynamisme à l’ensemble et donne envie de se dandiner dans tous les sens.
Ghosts débute avec des sonorités plus claires qui donnent une énergie nouvelle et qui s’amplifie petit à petit, créant un univers incroyable. Le chant arrête tout, pendant que les instruments restent en retrait mais se démarque le violoncelle de Tina Guo. Cette touche fait prendre au titre une dimension incroyable et le chant part sur quelque d’aérien. Il s’énerve un peu quand même, apportant de la rapidité, rapidement suivi par les instruments, créant un moment grandiose qui donne des frissons. Un titre qui fait de la profondeur une vraie force. Lords Of Fyre nous propose un nouveau feat et c’est avec Feuerschwanz. L’instrumentalité est lourde, le chant est en retrait et se démarque des chœurs, qui donne le sentiment qu’il s’agit d’un hymne. Une introduction vraiment sympa qui nous met dans le bain directement. On va alterner avec des passages plus posés et surtout plus doux, même si je préfère ceux qui s’affirment un peu plus, même si les deux univers cohabitent parfaitement. La dernière partie fait monter les choses, créant un passage intense et fort, avec un chant qui vient nous surprendre. The Things We Do For Love débute avec des sonorités douces qui viennent accompagner le chant. L’ensemble prend son temps et les instruments se développent et laissent finalement place à des sonorités électro. Le chant change à son tour et devient une sorte de murmure, un changement radical mais qui fait son effet ! Le titre est plus dur, presque violent avec plusieurs scream. D’une durée de presque six minutes, il se développe au fur et à mesure et termine en toute beauté.

The Sadness In Everything signe notre dernier featuring de l’album et c’est avec Anna Maria Rose, de Tales of Time. L’introduction est forte et dynamique et le chant d’Anna vient en soutien à celle de Chris, créant une belle dimension par ces petites touches plus légères et féminines. Elle prend la première place et on peut apprécier la beauté de son chant et de sa finesse. Un morceau qui met en avant une belle dualité. Dreams Are Never Alone vient clôturer ce premier opus avec un chant qui arrive par petite touche avant de totalement s’imposer. Les instruments s’ajoutent doucement et s’amplifient au fur et à mesure de l’écoute. Mais cela reste un titre assez linéaire avec lequel j’ai eu du mal.
Lord of the Lost nous propose un nouvel album intéressant et complet. On retiendra les nombreux guest qui viennent enrichir les choses et pousser toujours plus loin le groupe.

Lord of the Lost spoils us with the news that a trilogy of albums is coming, the first of which will be available on August 8th via Napalm Records. Opvs Noir Vol. 1 was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Chris Harms at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg.
Bazaar Bizarre begins with a strong introduction where several choirs are mixed, giving a direct grandiose and captivating side. Electro notes come to take over and change the atmosphere, announcing the vocals which arrive in small touches. The title is truly launched and the vocals captivate throughout. A first track which puts us directly in the mood and promises us a beautiful album. The vocals open, accompanied by an organ on My Sanctuary, the two give a more solemn but also very captivating aspect. The instrumentality is added and rhythms things a little more, even if the vocals remain a little too linear for my taste. The whole takes more and more scope and offers us beautiful instrumental passages, combined with different choirs on a rather short passage, which gives pep to the whole. The title remains quite dark and linear, until the last minute where the instruments are well highlighted but a little too short for my taste. Light Can Only Shine In The Darkness marks our first featuring of the album and it is with Shanon Den Adel of Within Temptation. It is she who opens the song, setting the tone with softness and power. The instruments follow and create a more airy atmosphere that Chris calms with his singing. The two voices combine and blend perfectly, especially during the chorus which is very catchy. Shanon is very present here and it is not until the end of the song that Chris lets go a little more, creating a beautiful duality.

I Will Die In It opens with a beautiful instrumental, which carries the title, which elevates it. The vocals calm things down again, it sets them down and we take our time. It will finally get a little more excited and speed things up a little to take flight and offer something airy. This aspect will be amplified by the instrumentality, which makes things rise gradually. I really like the addition of choirs which give a little something extra to the title. Moonstruck opens with a captivating piano but short-lived as the instruments take over. The atmosphere is grand, powerful and reinforced by choirs. This track offers us a new featuring and it’s with Stimmgewalt, whom I don’t know at all. The vocals change the atmosphere, moving to something calmer, which takes its time but keeps the choirs. The guitar solo is incredible and perfectly deepens this idea. I really appreciate the theatrical side that comes out here! The feat I was waiting for the most arrives, the one with Whiplasher Bernadotte (Deathstars) on Damage. Chris’s voice opens the song and sets the pace, the whole thing is quite square until surprising us with a scream, changing the game a little. Even the instrumentality seems different here and offers us a great energy. I really like the pattern that is revealed here, with calm passages from Chris and more angry and industrial passages from Whiplasher. A really interesting featuring that gives a good dynamism to the whole thing and makes you want to sway in all directions.
Ghosts begins with clearer tones that give a new energy and gradually amplify, creating an incredible universe. The vocals stop everything, while the instruments remain in the background but Tina Guo’s cello stands out. This touch gives the title an incredible dimension and the vocals start on something aerial. It gets a little angry though, bringing speed, quickly followed by the instruments, creating a grandiose moment that gives chills. A title that makes depth a real strength. Lords Of Fyre offers us a new feat and it’s with Feuerschwanz. The instrumentality is heavy, the vocals are in the background and stand out from the choirs, which gives the feeling that it’s an anthem. A really nice introduction that puts us in the mood straight away. We’ll alternate with more calm and especially softer passages, even if I prefer those that assert themselves a little more, even if the two universes coexist perfectly. The last part escalates things, creating an intense and strong passage, with vocals that come to surprise us. The Things We Do For Love begins with soft sounds that accompany the vocals. The ensemble takes its time and the instruments develop and finally give way to electro sounds. The vocals change in turn and become a sort of whisper, a radical change but one that has its effect! The track is harder, almost violent with several screams. Lasting almost six minutes, it develops gradually and ends beautifully.

The Sadness In Everything signs our final feature on the album, featuring Anna Maria Rose of Tales of Time. The introduction is strong and dynamic, and Anna’s vocals support Chris’s, creating a beautiful dimension with these lighter, more feminine touches. She takes center stage, and we can appreciate the beauty of her singing and her finesse. A track that highlights a beautiful duality. Dreams Are Never Alone closes this first album with vocals that arrive in small touches before fully asserting themselves. The instruments are added slowly and amplified as we listen. But it remains a fairly linear track, which I struggled with.
Lord of the Lost offers us an interesting and complete new album. We will remember the numerous guests who enrich things and push the band ever further.
