Le groupe de post-hardcore canadien Silverstein est de retour avec un double album : Antibloom / Pink Moon et la première partie sera disponible dès le 21 février, via UNFD. La seconde partie suivra plus tard dans l’année. Cette année symbolisant les 25 ans du groupe, ces derniers ont voulu marquer cette étape importante de leur carrière.
L’album débute avec Mercy Mercy, sur une introduction courte et assez étrange. La guitare arrive et le chant n’est pas bien loin. Une véritable agressivité ressort de ce titre et l’instrumentalité lourde appuie encore plus. L’apparition du chant clair vient quelque peu bouleverser les choses et toucher nos sentiments, apportant de la douceur et une profondeur en plus. Le contraste est intéressant et permet d’amplifier la violence de l’ensemble. La dernière minute vient agréablement nous surprendre, créant une ambiance plus aérienne, ponctuée de sons ressemblant à celle d’un présentateur radio. Don’t Let Me Get Too Low ouvre sur un chant rapide et dynamique, ponctué de quelques effets qui semblent accélérer les choses. Ce titre se différencie largement car il est plus léger et nous donne une bonne vibe. Le refrain vient donner encore plus de peps à l’ensemble et donne envie de se déhancher sur place. On ponctue le tout de quelques scream et de passages plus rapides, avant de s’énerver un peu plus sur la dernière minute. Confession débute sur le chant, créant une ambiance captivante et assez douce. L’instrumentalité donne un bon rythme, avec quelques ralentissements où les instruments s’effacent quelque peu, permettant de mettre en avant le chant clair. Le titre part alors sur quelque chose de plus fort et de puissant, créant deux ambiances différentes. Le refrain est puissant et entre facilement en tête. Un passage se démarque avec l’ensemble du groupe qui semble plus éloigné, presque dans un murmure, créant un côté plus intimiste avant de repartir de plus belle.

A Little Fight est un titre assez doux et dynamique. Le chant arrive et continue sur cette lignée. On se prend au jeu et j’aime beaucoup la douceur qui sort de ce titre. Il monte petit à petit et s’impose toujours plus, les instruments s’en donnant à coeur joie. Un morceau titre mais intense et captivant. Skin & Bones est l’un de mes titres préférés. Dès le début, les instruments tapent fort et sont rejoints par plusieurs scream. L’ensemble est imposant et captivant, créant un rythme dynamique et alternant entre les deux types de chants. Le refrain éclate, en chant clair et calme quelque peu les choses, rendant l’ensemble plus aérien. Il se passe de nombreuses choses et elle compile surtout tout ce qui fait l’identité du groupe. On découvre un beau changement vers la moitié, notamment avec l’apparition d’un duo guitare / chant et nous conduit à une véritable explosion grandiose. Les instruments nous rentrent dedans dès les premières secondes de I Will Destroy This. J’aime beaucoup l’ambiance ici et comment le chant clair va venir calmer les choses, jouant sur les rythmes et les profondeurs. Le refrain est totalement explosif et semble déborder encore plus d’énergie, donnant envie de sauter dans tous les sens. Il y a beaucoup de changements et cela donne un titre construit et surtout complet. La dernière partie continue de faire monter l’ensemble et nous nous préparons à un beau breakdown. L’explosion des instruments est une belle façon de clôturer ce titre.
Stress est puissant, fort et presque écrasant. Alors que l’ensemble se calme un peu, la batterie persévère et garde le ton. On va rapidement passer à quelque chose de différent, avec le chant clair et cela crée une belle alternance. Le refrain est également très entraînant et j’aime beaucoup la dynamique qu’il crée. Le milieu du morceau nous offre un moment de calme et met en avant les instruments, ainsi qu’un chant clair un peu différent. Le dernier titre est Cherry Coke et il nous offre une petite bulle de douceur. L’introduction est assez atmosphérique, mettant en avant le chant et créant quelque chose de plus intimiste et calme. La guitare acoustique se fait une petite place, en douceur et l’ensemble monte petit à petit, créant le sentiment de se retrouver dans une bulle. Une belle façon de clôturer cet album et de nous laisser emporter par l’univers du groupe.
Silverstein nous offre un album riche en couleurs et en sentiments. J’ai adoré découvrir des titres très différents, passant de quelque chose d’assez doux à des passages éprouvants et lourds. Le groupe nous livre ses différentes facettes et j’ai hâte de découvrir le deuxième album prévu cette année !

The second part will follow later in the year. This year symbolizing the 25th anniversary of the band, they wanted to mark this important step in their career.
The album begins with Mercy Mercy, on a short and rather strange introduction. The guitar arrives and the vocals are not far away. A real aggressiveness emerges from this title and the heavy instrumentality presses even more. The appearance of clean vocals somewhat upsets things and touches our feelings, bringing softness and additional depth. The contrast is interesting and allows to amplify the violence of the whole. The last minute pleasantly surprises us, creating a more airy atmosphere, punctuated by sounds resembling that of a radio presenter. Don’t Let Me Get Too Low opens with a fast and dynamic vocal, punctuated by a few effects that seem to speed things up. This title is very different because it is lighter and gives us a good vibe. The chorus gives even more pep to the whole thing and makes you want to shake your hips on the spot. We punctuate the whole thing with a few screams and faster passages, before getting a little more excited in the last minute. Confession begins with the vocals, creating a captivating and quite soft atmosphere. The instrumentality gives a good rhythm, with a few slowdowns where the instruments fade away somewhat, allowing the clear vocals to be highlighted. The title then goes on something stronger and more powerful, creating two different atmospheres. The chorus is powerful and easily gets into your head. A passage stands out with the whole group which seems more distant, almost in a whisper, creating a more intimate side before starting again more beautifully.

A Little Fight is a pretty soft and dynamic title. The vocals come in and continue in this vein. We get caught up in the game and I really like the softness that comes out of this title. It gradually increases and asserts itself more and more, the instruments having a great time. A title track but intense and captivating. Skin & Bones is one of my favorite tracks. From the beginning, the instruments hit hard and are joined by several screams. The whole thing is imposing and captivating, creating a dynamic rhythm and alternating between the two types of vocals. The chorus bursts out, in clear vocals and calms things down somewhat, making the whole thing more airy. A lot of things happen and it compiles everything that makes the group’s identity. We discover a nice change towards the middle, notably with the appearance of a guitar / vocal duo and leads us to a real grandiose explosion. The instruments get into us from the first seconds of I Will Destroy This. I really like the atmosphere here and how the clean vocals will calm things down, playing on the rhythms and depths. The chorus is totally explosive and seems to overflow with even more energy, making you want to jump in all directions. There are a lot of changes and it gives a constructed and especially complete title. The last part continues to make the whole thing rise and we prepare for a beautiful breakdown. The explosion of the instruments is a beautiful way to close this title.
Stress is powerful, strong and almost overwhelming. While the whole thing calms down a bit, the drums persevere and keep the tone. We quickly move on to something different, with the clean vocals and it creates a nice alternation. The chorus is also very catchy and I really like the dynamic it creates. The middle of the song offers us a moment of calm and highlights the instruments, as well as a slightly different clean vocal. The last track is Cherry Coke and it offers us a little bubble of sweetness. The introduction is quite atmospheric, highlighting the vocals and creating something more intimate and calm. The acoustic guitar makes a small place, gently and the whole thing gradually rises, creating the feeling of being in a bubble. A beautiful way to close this album and let ourselves be carried away by the world of the group.
Silverstein offers us an album rich in colors and feelings. I loved discovering very different tracks, going from something quite soft to trying and heavy passages. The group delivers its different facets and I can’t wait to discover the second album planned for this year!
