1/Bonjour, pour ceux qui ne vous connaissent pas, peux-tu présenter Edge Of Paradise ?
Bonjour, et merci de me recevoir ! Nous sommes un groupe de rock cinématique avec un côté industriel et symphonique. Nous sortons notre 4ème album studio The Unknown le 17 septembre, nous célébrons également notre 10ème anniversaire en tant que groupe. Dave (guitariste) et moi avons formé ce groupe à Los Angeles, Californie en 2011.Nous avons fait des tournées aux États-Unis, en Europe, au Japon et nous sommes impatients d’apporter notre musique en live, aux quatre coins du monde.
2/Comment décrirais-tu votre musique en 3 mots ?
Cinématique, stimulante, épique 🙂
3/ Votre nouvel album « The Unknown » va sortir dans quelques temps, comment vous sentez-vous par rapport à cette sortie ? Quels sont les thèmes dont vous avez parlés ? Comment l’avez-vous composé ?
Oui, le 17 septembre ! Nous sommes tellement excités de partager cette musique avec les gens, c’est notre album le plus significatif et le plus puissant. Jusqu’à présent, nous avons sorti 4 vidéos de l’album, Digital Paradise, My Method Your Madness, False Idols et The Unknown et c’est incroyable de voir les retours que nous recevons des gens du monde entier !
Il s’agit d’un album à thème futuriste/sci fi, mais il fait également appel aux émotions humaines les plus profondes.Les chansons se déroulent dans des scénarios plus grands que nature, explorant la fusion de l’esprit humain et de l’intelligence artificielle, la montée de l’IA, la recherche de l’au-delà à travers l’espace numérique et ses implications,les mystères du temps et les dimensions et possibilités infinies… Mais le coeur de l’album, qui lie aussi le sens sous-jacent de toutes les chansons, est la chanson titre, The Unknown “Inside the silence of my mind, I find strength in the unknown…” Je pense qu’en tant qu’humains, nous avons parfois tendance à craindre ce que nous ne connaissons pas ou ne pouvons pas contrôler, que ce soit se demander ce qui va se passer demain ou ce qu’il y a au-delà de cette vie… donc je voulais changer le récit et me détourner de la peur, et trouver le pouvoir dans le mystère de la vie…
Et peu importe ce que la vie nous réserve, les humains trouvent le moyen de persévérer, de surmonter et de reconstruire !
Nous avons composé cet album en 2020… Dave et moi écrivons les chansons dans notre studio à la maison et nous faisons des démos avant de les présenter à nos producteurs. Puis nous allons dans le vrai studio avec Mike Plotnikoff, et Neil de Three Days Grace était en zoom depuis le Canada.On a d’abord enregistré le chant de la démo, puis on a reconstruit la piste instrumentale avec les guitares, la basse, la batterie, je fais les claviers à la maison. Une fois les chansons terminées, je suis allé en studio avec Howard Benson et j’ai enregistré les voix finales.Après cela, nous envoyons nos chansons au Danemark pour le mixage et le mastering, chez Jacob Hansen, et il leur donne vie !
4/Qu’est-ce qui vous inspire pour écrire vos chansons ?
J’ai toujours été une chercheuse de possibilités plus grandes que la vie, repoussant les limites de la réalité telle que nous la connaissons. J’ai aussi toujours été attiré par la science. En réalité, nous vivons déjà un peu au bord de la science-fiction. Le premier single que nous avons sorti, Digital Paradise, parle de trouver la vie après la mort en téléchargeant la conscience dans un ordinateur, ça semble fou, mais il y a beaucoup de recherches en cours en ce moment même, pour trouver l’immortalité à travers l’espace numérique, en découpant et en scannant le cerveau pour le télécharger dans un ordinateur :). La question est de savoir ce qu’est la conscience, peut-elle exister à travers un code binaire, ou serait-ce se suicider que d’exister simplement en tant que copie numérique de nous-mêmes
Je suis également fascinée par l’univers, l’idée du temps, les possibilités de dimensions infinies, il y a tellement d’inconnu, et ça m’inspire vraiment de l’explorer à travers la musique !
5/Cet album sort après une année particulièrement difficile pour l’industrie musicale. Comment avez-vous abordé cette sortie ?
En fait, nous n’avions pas l’intention de faire un nouvel album, car notre précédent album Universe, vient de sortir fin 2019.Nous sommes revenus de notre tournée en Europe, et nous nous préparions pour la tournée américaine avec Hammerfall et Beast In Black.Mais quand la pandémie a commencé à prendre de l’ampleur et que les tournées ont commencé à être annulées, nous sommes allés en studio et y avons passé toute l’année, et la musique a en quelque sorte ouvert la voie pour nous. Cet album signifie beaucoup pour nous à bien des égards,
et nous espérons qu’il trouvera un sens dans la vie d’autres personnes aussi !
6/Quels sont vos projets pour la suite en dehors de la promotion de l’album ?
Nous aimons réaliser des vidéos musicales et créer une expérience multidimensionnelle pour les gens. Jusqu’à présent pour cet album, nous avons créé 4 vidéos et nous en ferons d’autres et on se prépare à créer un court-métrage pour l’une des chansons de l’album.Nous nous sommes associés à des réalisateurs de films pour présenter une histoire captivante, pleine d’action, entrelacée avec notre chanson dans un film de 20 minutes.
Je travaille également sur le livre de paroles et le livre d’art pour cet album, qui sera disponible aux alentours de la nouvelle année.
Et bien sûr, une tournée aux quatre coins du monde ! 🙂
7/Comment vois-tu l’évolution du groupe depuis le début et ton évolution personnelle en tant que chanteuse?
Nous avons connu une énorme évolution, nous avons vraiment commencé à trouver notre son après notre deuxième album, quand nous avons sorti notre EP ALIVE en 2017. Cela nous a conduit à notre troisième album UNIVERSE, qui a vraiment défini notre son ! Et avec ce nouvel album, nous l’avons juste amené à un autre niveau !
Je viens du monde de la musique classique et du théâtre, j’ai joué du piano toute ma vie. Dave vient du monde du heavy metal, donc il nous a fallu un certain temps pour trouver comment fusionner nos styles ensemble et trouver cette chose unique qui définit vraiment notre son. Et cette évolution doit se faire naturellement, tu ne peux pas le forcer. Et nous, en tant que groupe, nous sommes passés par tellement de hauts et de bas, nous on est partis de zéro et on a dû abattre tous les murs, et c’est cette persévérance, qui a aussi aidé à nous former en tant que musiciens, auteurs-compositeurs et personnes et a vraiment contribué au feu et à la passion de notre musique !
8/Quels groupes ou artistes figurent sur ta playlist actuelle ?
Entre nous tous, il y a un énorme éventail de musique ! J’adore écouter les bandes originales de films,mes compositeurs préférés sont Clint Mansell et Hanz Zimmer. J’aime aussi des groupes comme Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, nous aimons tous Rammstein, Korn, Within Temptation, et aussi les pères fondateurs du métal 🙂 comme Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath…

1/Hello, for those who don’t know you, can you introduce Edge Of Paradise?
Hello, and thank you for having me! We’re a cinematic rock band with an industrial and symphonic edge. We’re releasing our 4th studio album The Unknown Sep 17th, we’re also celebrating our 10 year anniversary as a band. Dave (guitarist) and I formed this band in Los Angeles, California back in 2011. We toured US, Europe, Japan and can’t wait to bring our music live again, to all corners of the world!

Cinematic, thought-provoking, epic 🙂
3/Your new album “The Unknown” will be released in a while, how do you feel about this release? What are the themes you’ve been talking about? How did you compose it?
Yes, September 17th! We’re so excited to share this music with people, it’s our most meaningful and powerful album, so far we released 4 music videos from the album, Digital Paradise, My Method Your Madness, False Idols and The Unknown, and it’s been amazing seeing the response we’re getting from people around the world!
This is a futuristic/sci fi themed album, but it also draws on the deepest human emotion. The songs are set in larger than life scenarios, exploring the merger of human mind and artificial intelligence, the rise of AI, finding afterlife through digital space and the implications of that, the mysteries of time and endless dimensions and possibilities… But the heart of the album, that also tie the underlying meaning of all the songs, is the title track, The Unknown. “Inside the silence of my mind, I find strength in the unknown…” I think as humans, at times, we tend to fear what we don’t know or can’t control, wether it’s wondering what’s gonna happen tomorrow or what’s beyond this life? so I wanted to change the narrative and turn away from fear, and find power in the mystery of life
… And no matter what life throws our way, humans find a way to persevere, overcome and rebuild! We composed this album during 2020… Dave and I write the songs in our home studio and we demo them up before bringing it to our producers. Then we go into the real studio with Mike Plotnikoff, and Neil from Three Days Grace was on zoom from Canada. We recorded the demo vocals first, then we rebuild the instrumental track with guitars, bass, drums, I do the keyboards at home. After the songs were done, I went into the studio with Howard Benson and recorded final vocals. After that we send our songs off to Denmark for mixing and mastering, to Jacob Hansen, and he brings them to life!
4/What inspires you to write your songs?
I’ve always been a seeker of larger than life possibilities, pushing boundaries of reality as we know it. I’ve also always been into science. In reality, we already kind of live on the verge of science fiction. The first single we released, Digital Paradise, is about finding afterlife by uploading consciousness into a computer, it seems crazy, but there is some much ongoing research being done as we speak, on finding immortality through the digital space, by slicing and scanning the brain to upload into a computer 🙂 The question is, what is consciousness, can it exist though a binary code, or would we just be committing suicide to exist simply as digital copy of ourselves?
I’m also fascinated by the universe, the idea of time, possibilities of endless dimensions, there is so much that’s Unknown, and it really inspires me to explore it though music!
5/This album is coming out after a particularly difficult year for the music business, how did you approach this release?
Actually we weren’t planning on making a new album as our previous album Universe, just released at the end of 2019, we came back from our EU tour, and were getting ready for US tour with Hammerfall and Beast In Black. But as the pandemic started to take hold and tours started to cancel, we pretty much went into the studio and spent the whole year there, and the music kind of lead the way for us. This album means so much to us on so many levels, and we hope it finds meaning in other peoples lives as well!
6/What are your plans for the future outside of promoting the album?
We love making music videos and creating a multi dimensional experience for people. So far for this album, we created 4 videos so far and will be making more, and are getting ready to create a short film for one of the songs from the album. We’re partnering with some amazing film makers to bring a captivating story, packed with action interlaced with our song in a 20 minute film!
I’m also working on the lyric and art book for this album, that will be available around the new year!
And of course touring, to all corners of the world! 🙂
7/How do you see the evolution of the band since the beginning and your personal evolution as a musician?
We went through a tremendous evolution, we really started to find our sound after our second album, when we released our EP ALIVE in 2017. That lead us to our third album UNIVERSE, that really defined our sound! And with this new album, we just took it to another level!
I came from a classical music and theater world, I played piano my whole life, Dave is from the heavy metal world, so it took us a while to figure out how to merge our styles together and find that unique thing that really defines our sound. And that evolution has to naturally occur, you can’t force it. And we, as a band, we went through so many ups and downs, we started from zero and had to knock down every wall, and that perseverance, that also helped shape us as musicians, songwriters and people, really ads to the fire and passion of our music!
8/Which bands or artists are in your actual playlist?
Between all of us, there is a huge spectrum of music! I love listening to movie soundtracks, my favorite composers are Clint Mansell and Hanz Zimmer. I also love bands like Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, we all love Rammstein, Korn, Within Temptation, also founding fathers of metal 🙂 like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath…
